Chapter 53 Hunting Plan
Chapter 53 Hunting Plan
Under the dim light of the gas lamp, Suren did not rush to look through the documents on the table. Instead, he first organized his thoughts in his mind, mainly focusing on the general knowledge about demons that he already knew.
Since joining the "Deathbird Brotherhood," Suren has been actively collecting extraordinary knowledge: old files in the duty station's archives, case reports occasionally tossed to him by Corrigan, and even encounters from missions mentioned in casual conversations among the Deathbirds—he has taken note of all of them. With his exceptional memory, these things are like photographs fixed in his mind, readily available for use.
Based on the information he has gathered so far, Level I demons, "Evil Spirits," typically possess only one single ability. In contrast, Level II demons, "Dominators," have experienced a qualitative leap in the number of abilities they can possess, almost matching the number available to "Awakeners."
As for the Level III demon "Calamity Duke", Suren had very little information, only knowing that they possessed high intelligence and that their physical composition, like the "Agents", exceeded the realm of the physical body.
Level IV demons are completely beyond Suren's current reach. Level V demons exist only in legends; they have only appeared twice since the beginning of the Mythical Era, and both times they caused enormous disasters.
Demons share a common trait: their power is far greater than that of other superhumans of the same level. Typically, a Level II "Dominator" needs an experienced "Awakener" to lead the way, along with 2-3 experienced "Seekers." With standard equipment and normal hunting conditions, the success rate is quite high.
However, a demon's strength cannot be completely categorized by rank. Thinking of this, Suren subconsciously tapped the table. He recalled the cases mentioned by the Death Birds in the duty station during their casual conversations—some Level I demons, with one or two particularly troublesome abilities, could make even experienced "Awakeners" stumble.
The demon that Ellie transformed into was a troublesome type. If it were a Level II demon with the same abilities, the "Dominator Demon," Suren would probably only be able to resolve the battle using "Mirror Demon."
After organizing his thoughts, Suren picked up a dip pen, turned to a blank page in his notebook, and began to sort out and deduce.
Currently, there are two major advantages that enable Suren to hunt "Dominate the Demons".
First, those two bottles of concealed potions provide a significant initial advantage.
Secondly, the "Tears of Ellie" over-healing ability, which can frantically deplete the life force of the attacked, is currently Suren's strongest attack method. The weakness of "Tears of Ellie" requiring close contact has been completely eliminated by the potion.
Suren put down his pen, rubbed his temples, and looked at the two lines of text, beginning to think about how to maximize his advantage.
The chosen demon should ideally have low defense, so that Suren can take advantage of going first.
In addition, since the erasure potion likely only erases perception and does not make one completely invincible, the chosen demon should ideally not have the ability to attack indiscriminately over a wide area.
Suren nodded, having simply established the criteria. The next step was to select suitable targets based on these criteria.
He reached for the stack of professors' documents on the left and placed them in front of him; the only sound in the room was the rustling of notes being turned.
The professor's information and the information provided by bald Kirby overlapped to some extent, but the overlapping parts were not wasted; the records from both sides complemented each other perfectly.
After an unknown amount of time, Suren put down the last stack of documents, which landed on the table with a soft thud.
He had divided the documents on the table into two stacks, placing two separate documents in the center of the table and the rest on the side.
After careful screening by Suren, only the two documents containing the term "Dominator of Demons" remained that met the criteria.
The first "Dominator Demon" shares the same origin as the Libra Church, and its ability is "equivalent exchange".
The document containing its information belonged to the most expensive tier at Bald Toby's place—one of two copies costing one hundred and fifty pounds. The handwriting was neat, the information detailed, and it even included a hand-drawn sketch out the general outline of the demon.
The professor's notes also contain records of this demon. Since the professor himself was very familiar with the ability of "equivalent exchange", the records were naturally more detailed, totaling three pages.
The second "Dominator" is a giant spider with abilities focused on healing and control, similar to the abilities of the superhumans of the "Eternal Silence Church".
There is much less information about it. The information about Bald Toby only briefly lists its range of activities and an overview of its abilities. The professor's records are also quite vague, only recording its habits and range of activities.
These two demons have been in the wilderness for no more than half a month, and it is highly likely that they have not yet been hunted by anyone else.
Suren's gaze darted back and forth between the two demons' files. He picked up both documents and carefully flipped through them. After weighing the pros and cons, Suren chose the second one.
The reason is simple: the first "Dominion" is a construct—completely made of stone, so obviously, the power of "Ellie's Tears" is unlikely to work on it.
The spider, being made of flesh and blood, had its healing abilities countered by Suren's "Eye of Withering".
According to the professor's records, this spider's other ability primarily involves manipulating emotions, causing its enemies to fall into a deep sleep before launching an attack. The problem can be easily solved by simply preparing some stimulants that can invigorate and excite the mind.
This spider's fighting method involves using its powerful healing and control abilities to wear down its enemies through sheer physical strength.
Suren, on the other hand, perfectly counters it; as long as enough damage is dealt, the hunt will be very easy.
"It's you I've decided on!" Suren confirmed her target, casually folded up the scattered documents on the table, and put them into the "Mandala Ring".
He turned to a new page in the notebook in front of him, took out the map of the wilderness area he had previously exchanged from the ring, and began to plan his hunt around the spider "Dominator".
The pen tip scratched across the notebook, the soft rustling sound echoing in the quiet room.
He didn't write quickly; each stroke seemed to be reviewed in his mind first. Occasionally, he would stop writing, his gaze fixed on a certain spot, his brows furrowing slightly, before he lowered his head again a few seconds later.
Only the sound of Su Lun writing remained in the room, while the night outside the window grew deeper and deeper.
……
The next morning, Su Lun pushed open the door of the duty station. Mr. Lawrence was sitting behind the counter, organizing files as usual.
Suren walked quickly to Lawrence and handed him a contribution material application form that had been filled out the night before.
Lawrence didn't speak. After taking the form, his gaze swept from the beginning to the end of the form, lingering for two seconds on the column for the name of the supplies, and then he frowned.
"One Nymph Teardrop Orchid, one Azure Crystal, two bottles of Mental Stimulant, and one Source Knowledge Structure Stabilizer?" Lawrence looked up, his gaze landing on Suren's face. "These things aren't cheap, and you're still a long way from your promotion. They're useless to you right now. 375 contribution points—that's almost all of your contribution points. Are you sure?"
Suren shrugged and said casually, "Better safe than sorry."
Most of the items Suren exchanged were auxiliary items needed for promotion, so there was no need to submit a report.
Lawrence shook his head, didn't try to persuade him further, and got up to walk towards the small door behind him.
Just as Suren was waiting, the door to the duty station was pushed open. Suren turned around and was somewhat surprised to see Mrs. Howard.
