Chapter 92, Act 3
Chapter 92, Act 3
At the crossroads in the Diamond District, Oswald stood in the pouring rain, holding an umbrella, glancing at his Rolex every few seconds.
Beside him was an overturned tanker truck, leaking an unknown liquid.
Driving well is difficult, but it's even more difficult to pretend you can't drive when you have excellent driving skills. The hardest thing is to pretend you can't drive when you have great driving skills, and even flip the car over...
But Oswald did it.
While navigating the bend, he deliberately replayed the details of Qin Wei's maneuver when he led him into the Gotham River in his mind, and then tried it out himself.
He turned the steering wheel all the way to the corner and slammed on the brakes—a series of smooth and fluid movements reminiscent of a world-class rally driver.
As his gaze began to tilt, the little penguin couldn't help but sigh, "To drive a car like that, it takes a damn bit of talent. For example, I couldn't have come up with such a clever way to flip the car."
After being presented with a forged flammable goods transport permit, the police immediately blocked off the intersection and evacuated the public and vehicles. The intersection, which had the highest traffic volume in the Diamond District, was instantly deserted.
Everything is going according to plan.
The police officer's walkie-talkie next to me started beeping.
It was Sheriff Rob who gave the order that a group of heavily armed thugs had just robbed a bank and disappeared. He ordered the officers to report immediately if they found any trace of them and to stop them at all costs.
A moment later, the walkie-talkie rang again. This time it was a message from Sheriff Gordon, whose request was the complete opposite of Rob's: to avoid engaging in firefights with heavily armed bandits as much as possible.
The officers were stunned when they received the news. Logically, they should have taken orders from Rob, who had a higher rank, but compared to the chief, who sat in the office all day and was never seen, the veteran Gordon was the one they had always followed.
Although they didn't know what had happened, the officers sensed something was amiss. Several people huddled together, whispering amongst themselves, before dispersing.
"Hey buddy, what's up?" Oswald quietly approached to inquire.
"It's nothing serious. A group of thugs robbed a bank. They didn't take any hostages and were armed with heavy weapons. We discussed it and decided it would be best not to shoot if we encountered them!"
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a modified bus appeared at the end of the road, bursting through the rain and speeding toward the intersection.
"Oh my God, they're here so fast! Quickly, move the car!"
……
Qin Wei was ready to break through the checkpoint, but the police cars parked side by side at the intersection voluntarily made way for him.
The bus knocked over the traffic cones, like a winner crossing the finish line in a 100-meter race, and sped away, wrapped in the police tape.
"It seems Sheriff Gordon has already made the arrangements," Selena said.
"Yes, that's why we need to hurry up even more," Qin Wei replied in a deep voice, biting his nails.
Gordon's actions certainly gave them the green light, but they also attracted the attention of Rob and even Maroney.
Gordon has gambled his entire life on Qin Wei without seeing any evidence. If this matter doesn't end well, this man's fate will likely be tragic.
That's why Qin Wei felt pressured.
The threats from the police are no longer a concern; the real worry is the clown who has been lurking in the shadows all along.
That guy gave me a whole truckload of weapons, clearly intending to orchestrate this heist. But what was his real purpose?
Just want to be a fun-loving person? It's probably not that simple.
As the bus entered the tunnel, the sudden cessation of the rain brought a sense of relief to everyone, but the clear view immediately allowed Qin Wei to spot something in the distance.
Two heavy trucks completely blocked the lane and drove side by side toward the bus. Reus honked his horn angrily, but this only provoked the trucks to back down.
Four xenon headlights suddenly illuminated the tunnel, instantly engulfing it in blinding white light. At the same time, bullets rained down on the bus's steel plates.
The uninvited guests finally showed up, carrying two large bags of trash.
"What should we do?" Willie wrung his hands anxiously.
"Do you remember when you asked me what the Gatling gun on the roof of the car was for?" Qin Wei pointed to the roof of the car.
"Go ahead, turn things upside down! I hope you'll know how to use it."
"Yes, sir!"
Willie excitedly climbed onto the roof of the vehicle using the welded iron ladder. He gripped the gun handle and aimed the crosshairs at the headlights.
"I really hope all those high-beam idiots can taste it!" The demolition expert muttered excitedly as he pressed the machine gun fire button.
Rat-a-tat-tat-tat-tat!!!
Flames danced from the gun barrel, and almost instantly the spent cartridges filled the roof of the car. The xenon headlights were blinded in an instant, and thick smoke billowed from the entire front of the car.
Two punctured front wheels dragged the out-of-control truck headfirst against the wall, and the entire truck body crashed to the ground amidst a huge noise, exposing the crushed and deformed oil tank to everyone's eyes.
Qin Wei then realized that this was also a tanker truck!
Reus slammed on the brakes and swiftly shifted the car into reverse with his right hand, as if casting a spell.
Jason yanked Willie off, who was still in a daze, and closed the lid.
The next second, the explosion and flames engulfed everyone's vision, and the flames erupting from the tunnel engulfed the bus in an instant, like a ferocious dragon flapping its wings.
There were no flammable materials in the tunnel, and the explosion came and went quickly. A gust of wind rushed in, carrying up the charred remains of the explosives and filling the oxygen depleted in the tunnel.
Once the flames had died down, the clown gang, who had been lying in ambush behind the bushes outside the tunnel, put on gas masks and groped their way into the dark passage.
The clown didn't know the group's escape route, but exhaustive search saved him a lot of trouble. As for the tanker truck in the tunnel, it was an open scheme; if Qin Wei wanted to change vehicles, he had to set the evacuation rendezvous point in the suburbs, and to get to the suburbs, he would have to pass through the tunnel.
Whether the tanker truck explodes or not, it will hinder their progress, since the tunnel is so small.
The Joker gang members were all heavily made up, some gripping baseball bats and others wielding submachine guns. They had suffered heavy losses in the last battle; not only had Qin Wei wiped out many of their elite troops, but even their pickup truck was mostly destroyed.
If these people knew that their leader, the clown, was making such a big fuss just to please the enemy, I wonder what the poor sycophants would think.
"Come quick! They're here!!!"
The young man leading the way shouted excitedly.
The scorched black bus lay across the road like a dead monster, its melted tires resembling oozing blood.
The Clown Gang, on the other hand, is a group of primitive people who tread on sticky blood and jump around the carcasses of their prey.
With great effort, he inserted the dagger into the car door and pried it open a crack. The Joker's gang leader, Quinn, impatiently pried open the car door.
Last time he fought Qin Wei, he was thrown off his pickup truck and spent two whole weeks in the hospital. This time, all he wanted to do was point at his enemy's charred, dried corpse and laugh until he died.
But the cool air inside the carriage made his heart sink.
The cold barrel of a gun, protruding from the darkness, pressed against his sweat-drenched forehead.
