Chapter 19 Giant Zombie King
Seeing the horde of corpses in complete disarray, Lorraine loosened her grip and watched them devour each other.
More than 10 minutes passed, and the sole survivor survived with missing limbs. Before it could recover, two 12.7mm machine gun bullets flew over and shattered it into pieces.
After confirming that there were no remaining zombies around, Lorraine opened the data panel to check the kill rewards:
[Environmental kill reward: 5 units of fuel.]
"Five units of fuel could give a lot to a group of elderly, weak, sick, and disabled people," Lorraine muttered.
"Stop muttering, it seems like a horde of zombies from elsewhere has been attracted here."
Lorraine suddenly looked up into the distance. Due to the presence of the firelight, the night vision goggles switched to anti-glare mode.
Listen, from your perspective.
The observation tower, Di Ting, transmitted the images observed by the thermal imager to the eyepiece.
Lorin stared at the numerous humanoid heat sources in the distance, lost in thought: "Where did all these unmutated individuals come from? Half of this batch just now mutated."
"When the mutant preyed on normal individuals, no behavior of the normal individuals in hiding or fleeing was observed."
"Is it possible that this is a new mutated individual?" Ouyang Nian asked. After all, she had never seen a mutated zombie that looked no different from a normal zombie.
"Thump thump thump—" As soon as the group of zombies came into view, Lorraine decisively pulled the trigger, and a series of bullets flew out, cutting the group of zombies in half and tearing them into pieces of flesh.

"Warning: A large heat source is approaching," the Di Ting warned.
"Confirm the distance," Lorraine said.
"400 meters from our position, about to enter the firing range."
The moment Lorraine saw the horde of corpses through his night vision goggles, he decisively pulled the trigger.
"Thump thump thump thump—" The tracer bullets interspersed among them left streaks of light, helping Lorraine to correct the direction of her shots.
Lorraine swung the machine gun from side to side, and the horde of corpses fell down in unison, like weeds cut by a scythe.
"Click!" The last bullet missed. Lorraine shouted to Ouyang Nian, "Use armor-piercing rounds to create a fan-shaped pattern!"
"Tengu, come here!" Lorraine loaded a box of 100 rounds of ammunition into each of the two heavy machine guns that could fire toward the riverbank, and placed the remaining two boxes of ammunition on Tengu.
"Bang bang bang bang!" Four armor-piercing bullets blasted four bloody paths through the horde of zombies, making the already small group even sparser.
"Clang!" Lorraine attached a new ammunition belt to the machine gun and cocked it. Looking at the sparse horde of zombies, he told Ouyang Nian to stop firing: "Let him get closer and give him to me. You keep an eye on the rear. I reckon the Zombie King is coming."
Before Lorraine could even clear the horde of corpses from his path, the 30mm machine gun roared to life again. "Listen! Visualize! Show me the firing effects!"
Under thermal imaging, red bullets struck the pale orange humanoid torso.
"What the hell! This three-meter-tall thing can't be a zombie king, can it?!" Lorraine swore.
"Probably. Look, there's a bunch of zombies following him. Aren't they afraid of getting crushed by his feet?"
Then the two saw the Zombie King bend down, grab a zombie, and throw it.
"Tengu, intercept and fire!"
"Roger that." Tengu aimed at the zombie in the air, and after calculating its trajectory, the machine gun on its back spat out flames, turning it into a sieve in mid-air.
"He threw 'Fatty' again! That's really clever!" Lorraine gritted her teeth.
Lorraine remounted the machine gun and said, "Listen, help calibrate the trajectory." He then aimed at the zombie king's lower body and fired.
"Ballistic deviation to the left, correct 15 degrees to the right; hit!"
One by one, the fat men beneath the giant zombie's feet exploded. Suddenly, it crouched down, grabbed one in each hand, and prepared to throw them towards the gunboat.
"Tiangou, I'll go left, you go right, intercept and fire. Ouyang Nian, use high-explosive rounds on it!" Lorraine fired first at the giant zombie's left arm, successfully stopping its throw amidst a series of explosions.
But this action seemed to enrage it. It roared and swung its arm, throwing the "fat guy" on its right straight at it.
"Thump!" The grenade on the back of the Tengu was fired and successfully exploded in mid-air.
At that moment, the giant zombie bent down, grabbed a handful of zombies, and stuffed them into its mouth. "It's recovering from its injuries by eating. Ouyang Nian, keep fighting!"
Several more fireworks exploded in front of the giant zombie. "Stop firing! What's that it's holding?"
From the perspective of the Listener, Lorraine saw the item in his hand—a bone greatsword.
"I'd like to know if you have any 30mm thick steel plates that can withstand such damage!"
Ouyang Nian switched back to armor-piercing rounds and fired, easily piercing the bone greatsword in his hand.
"Roar—!" The giant zombie roared in pain, then dragged its sword and charged toward the shore.
"600 meters away!"
"Thump thump thump!" Three blasts rang out as grenades shot from behind the Tengu, striking the giant zombie's left leg and forcing it to its knees. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Ouyang Nian switched the 30mm cannon to hybrid ammunition and opened fire.
To disrupt his actions, Lorraine aimed at his head and fired decisively, forcing him to cover his face with his hands.
Suddenly, the machine gun stopped firing. A few seconds later, it roared up again.
But in those few short seconds, the giant zombie threw its greatsword, and was then hit in the head by several armor-piercing bullets, falling to the ground and dying.
"Damn it." Seeing the greatsword flying towards him, Lorraine grabbed the Tengu's storage basket. "Tengu, run!"
Just as the Tengu pulled them away from their original position, the greatsword cleaved the heavy machine gun on the deck in two. Fortunately, the entire sword got stuck in the newly laid armor plating and did not cause any damage to the ship's structure.
"Phew, I almost lost my life! Thank goodness for the Tengu!"
