Chapter 22, the second Sun Rui
Chapter 22, the second Sun Rui
At this moment, Qin Qiuyun was pulled back by a middle-aged woman, and a man was standing next to her.
"You came out of my house so early this morning, you know perfectly well what you did... Everyone come and see! This vixen has no conscience and is seducing my man!" The middle-aged woman grabbed Qin Qiuyun's pajamas tightly.
Her pajamas were stretched out of shape, revealing a large expanse of white skin at her chest. Qin Qiuyun quickly covered her chest.
The middle-aged woman's shout startled the villagers who had already gotten up, and they rushed over to watch the performance.
"Isn't this Xiao Qin? Her husband just died a few months ago, and she can't hold back anymore?"
"Young man, it's normal to lose your temper when it flares up."
"Tsk tsk, I knew it! So that's why she always went out in the middle of the night!"
The villagers were talking amongst themselves, as if they were already convinced that Qin Qiuyun was a woman who had cheated on her husband.
"What nonsense are you talking about! The fog was too thick last night, I took the wrong turn!" Qin Qiuyun's face quickly flushed red, she was so angry.
"You think you can get to my house by taking the wrong road? My house was locked last night, and you still dare to argue!" The middle-aged woman reached out to grab Qin Qiuyun's hair.
The man standing nearby quickly intervened, saying, "Enough! Aren't you embarrassed enough already? I've already told you I didn't do anything last night, but you still have to make a scene!"
"You're still protecting this vixen... Waaah~ I don't want to live anymore, let me die!" The middle-aged woman burst into tears and tried to kill herself by crashing into Qin Qiuyun's door.
The man quickly stopped her, his face also showing a look of exasperation.
Upon seeing this scene, Sun Rui stepped forward.
"What happened to you last night?" he asked Qin Qiuyun.
"What are you doing here? Why did you keep calling my name last night? I wouldn't have gotten lost if it weren't for you!" Qin Qiuyun was a little angry. After she and Sun Rui got separated last night, she couldn't find Sun Rui anywhere. She could only hear his voice from afar and then follow the sound, but she couldn't even see him.
"Are you sure you heard me calling you?" Sun Rui's gaze sharpened.
"Of course, who else could it be but you? Were you playing a trick on me last night? I couldn't find you anywhere," Qin Qiuyun said.
Sun Rui fell into deep thought. He and Qin Qiuyun had the same experience: they both encountered another person. Sun Rui had even had contact with the fake Qin Qiuyun, but she had never met the fake Sun Rui.
"There must be a pattern to this... Could it be that because I am a ghost tamer, my other self cannot manifest normally?" This thought arose in Sun Rui's mind.
"Oh, who is this? One man isn't enough for you, you also want to keep a gigolo? He's so thin and pale, can he handle it?" The middle-aged woman who was just acting like she was going to die immediately stood up and mocked them when she saw the two talking.
"Watch your mouth, or I'll kill you if you do it again," Sun Rui said coldly, looking at her.
The middle-aged woman felt a chill run down her spine when she saw his cold gaze, as if he were looking at a corpse.
"You..." The middle-aged woman couldn't utter a word; Sun Rui gave her the feeling that he might actually kill someone.
"I'm sorry, it's a misunderstanding, young man, please don't mind it." The man next to him quickly apologized and pulled the middle-aged woman away.
Just then, Sun Rui noticed some abrasions on the man's forearm.
"Wait a minute!" Sun Rui stepped forward to stop the two.
"Is there anything else?" the man asked.
"How did you get this injury on your arm?" Sun Rui asked.
"You mean this? I fell off my motorcycle the day before yesterday and scraped my face on the ground. That's not important, is it? Can I leave now?" The man was sweating profusely. He noticed that Sun Rui seemed to have a pistol tucked into his waistband. Looking at Sun Rui's face, he immediately thought of the word "murderer."
"Let her walk back by herself. I have something to ask you. Come with me," Sun Rui said.
The man immediately whispered something in his wife's ear, and she stopped crying and making a fuss. Without even glancing at Sun Rui, she lowered her head and left.
Seeing that there was nothing interesting to watch, the villagers who had been watching went about their own business.
When Sun Rui returned to Qin Qiuyun's house, the man stood in front of him, barely daring to breathe, while Qin Qiuyun, standing to the side, clearly didn't understand what had happened.
"Was it Li Maolin who took you back to the village that night? And what happened to you that night? Answer truthfully, or you know the consequences." Sun Rui took the pistol from his waist and slammed it on the table.
"How did you get this!" Qin Qiuyun covered her mouth in fright. The sound of the pistol hitting the table just now didn't seem fake.
The man knelt down in fear: "Don't kill my brother... I will answer the truth. I... I was doing odd jobs in town that night, and around 2 a.m. I received a call from my wife saying that our house had been burgled and that I should come back immediately... So I asked Li Maolin to bring me back..."
"And then?" Sun Rui asked.
"Then, I told him I could just drop him off at the village entrance. I don't know why, but he insisted on taking me to my doorstep. Then I fell down right there in front of my house. I was in a hurry and forgot to ask him for compensation..." The man glanced at Sun Rui's expression, which remained unchanged, and continued.
"When I got home, I found that all my chickens were gone. I didn't sleep all night and just kept listening to the sounds in the village, hoping to catch the thief. But then fog rolled in and there was no sound in the village. So I fell asleep."
"Didn't you encounter anything strange?" Sun Rui asked.
"Something strange...yes! My wife said...she didn't call me that night, does that count? That's all I know..." the man quickly added, he really didn't know anything strange.
Sun Rui looked into the man's eyes. He didn't seem to be lying, but what he said was completely different from what Li Maolin had said...
"wrong!"
He suddenly realized that the changes in the village started around 10 p.m. So how wide was the scope of this thing's influence? In other words, the two of them were very likely already affected by the vengeful ghost on their way back to the village.
"You can go now!" Sun Rui needed to contact Li Maolin. He wasn't lying, but he might have been hiding something, such as the matter of that small town in the Republican era. After all, Sun Rui had seen Li Maolin when he was young there.
The man breathed a sigh of relief and turned to leave.
"What happened last night felt like I had entered Li Maolin's memories... but why was it only me..." Sun Rui tapped his fingers on the table, a habit he had when he was thinking.
Now he needs to confirm whether what happened last night was what Li Maolin experienced. This matter is complicated, but not very dangerous. The three days given by the Ghost Post Office are probably to allow the messenger to figure out the complete logic behind it.
He picked up his phone and dialed Zhou Wan's number.
"Notify the police station in Baihua Town, Dachang City, and have them immediately apprehend a man named Li Maolin. He is involved in a paranormal incident. Once he is caught, send him to Luoshan Village immediately, and send two more police officers to assist him," Sun Rui said.
"Understood. Could you describe the man's appearance?"
"..."
Sun Rui gave some information; this matter had to be handled quickly, as it was the second day since he delivered the message, and there were only three days left.
"What exactly do you do?" Qin Qiuyun asked cautiously. She had heard the phone call earlier and was surprised that this man could mobilize the police force directly. He was also talking about some kind of supernatural event. Could it be that Luoshan Village is haunted?
"You don't need to know, oh...right, I almost forgot something..."
Sun Rui approached Qin Qiuyun, grabbed her by the neck, and only when he felt the warmth and heartbeat of a living person did he slowly release his grip.
"Cough cough...Are you sick?!" Qin Qiuyun covered her neck and dry heaved.
Sun Rui glanced at her coldly; no one wants a ghostly thing following them around.
