Chapter 45 Exploration
Chapter 45 Exploration
As soon as they came down, they saw goblins and Yabo fighting a fierce battle.
The scene was horrific; even a veteran like Undine found it hard to bear.
Before they could explore the anomaly, Undine reacted first, drawing her bow and sending the dark-skinned goblins and Yabo to their deaths.
"Oh no, why did you kill Yabo too? He could still be saved!"
A noblewoman with no experience of adventure exclaimed in surprise.
Undine explained, "The resurrection point can heal all physical injuries and remove all negative effects suffered in the dungeon."
"But if the adventurer doesn't die and leaves the dungeon on their own, all the injuries they sustained in the dungeon will become permanent."
"If Yabo returns to the surface in this state, his condition on the surface will be that both of his kidneys are destroyed, his whole body is burned, his wounds are festering everywhere, and he will eventually be disemboweled by goblin cubs."
"Ugh, that's disgusting."
The noblewoman shook her head repeatedly, a hint of fear on her face. She asked:
"Won't we end up like Yabo? Isn't this level incredibly dangerous?"
"I don't know, no one can predict what a new dungeon level will be like."
Undine shook her head, exchanged a glance with Olya, and the two, sharing the same idea, contacted Caesar.
"Boss, weren't we told this exploration would be safe? Why did we get teleported to the challenge area?"
Oria and Undine knew exactly what was inside. Not only were there anti-magic stones and gravity stones everywhere, but the sheer number of unreasonable obstacles like the monolithic bridge meant they were almost guaranteed to take a hit.
Although the treasure chests can be seen from anywhere, the final stage consists of four fire demons that have reached their level cap, so there's no way to skip it.
There is no exit here, and the entire area will change imperceptibly. Only by clearing the level will the changes stop.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you, when you come down from a normal teleportation point, anyone will be forcibly teleported to the challenge area."
"Don't worry, I'll handle the micro-management. Head towards the treasure chest, the dungeon lord is watching you."
Caesar responded heartlessly by unilaterally cutting off communication, ignoring the two women's attempts to harass him.
"Boss!"
Oria cried out in the chat channel, while Undine was a little excited; she hadn't had a real adventure in a long time.
"It's alright, Olya. Anyway, the boss will definitely not let us be humiliated. At most, we'll just die once. As long as we act quickly, it might not even hurt."
"So, are you quick?" Olya looked at Undine expectantly.
Before Undine could answer, Caesar's voice suddenly rang out again: "You are not allowed to commit suicide."
"From now on, you two will be going to other dungeons or surface explorations with Willis. I can't keep giving you cheat codes like this. It's time for you to improve your own adventurer skills."
"Before the next update, you all need to come here to practice every day. When there's no one else around, I can give you a buff that prevents fatigue, so you can quickly improve your combat skills."
"I understand, boss," Olya replied with a bitter expression.
Undine asked curiously, "Boss, do I want one too? I think I have pretty much the qualities of an adventurer."
"Of course you want it. I'll order two more enchanted souls for you based on your performance these past few days."
"I guarantee I'll complete the mission, boss." Undine instantly felt full of fighting spirit and had already started imagining what her third enchanted soul would do.
Once they regained consciousness, the two led the noble team toward the treasure chest.
In this special area, they cannot see the golden light of the teleportation point. They cannot find their way back to the sixth floor. To get out, they can only anchor themselves in one direction or commit suicide on the spot.
After walking for a short while, someone noticed that the surrounding materials were not right.
"Gravity stones! My God, this place actually forms a continuous mountain range!"
"No wonder I always feel so heavy."
"There are even anti-magic stones further away, my god, the North Dungeon!"
They were shouting and yelling, even more excited than when they saw a succubus.
However, before they could even celebrate for a few seconds, the commotion attracted the attention of the monsters.
Several rotting wild dogs emerged from the stone forest, their scarlet eyes embedded in their tattered bodies. Their rotting flesh carried an aura of curse; if an adventurer were bitten, they would also be infected with the same type of curse, which was difficult to remove, and would eventually turn into a mad, rotting corpse.
"All four stray dogs are level 30. Don't panic, we can handle them."
Undine, drawing on her experience, calmly directed the nobles.
"Mage, cast shields on us first. You don't need to cast attack spells. Just focus on buffing the front line. Weakening spells won't work on cursed creatures like Rotting Hounds, but Holy Purification might be effective."
"Charge straight ahead from the front, but be careful not to get hit in vital areas. With support, you can recover."
As he spoke, Undine had already drawn her longbow to protect the nobles.
With the blessing of the enchanted soul, she could take down those four wild dogs all by herself.
But Undine knew she needed to conserve her strength to deal with unexpected situations, and this time the main purpose was to give Olya practical experience.
Holy Light Shield
"Wind Shield"
Fire Shield
The nobles, with their sharp intellect, followed Undine's instructions diligently, while the warriors, buffed by the buff, drew their weapons and charged forward to meet the enemy.
They were generally only in their twenties, and with the gravity stone suppressing them, even with their numerical advantage and buffs, they could barely withstand the rotting wild dogs' bites.
Just then, Oliya intervened: "Purification Technique!"
A holy light shone forth, and four rotting wild dogs let out mournful howls. Their already rotten flesh was scorched by the purification spell, a truly pitiful sight.
Taking advantage of the disruption to the rotting wild dogs' offensive, the front line seized the opportunity and cut off their heads.
"Very good, that's it, well done."
Undine smiled and praised the group.
With the crisis temporarily averted, the nobles regained their confidence and continued their march toward the treasure chest.
As they ventured deeper, the surrounding environment slowly changed, the magic in the air decreased until it disappeared completely, and even began to drain the magic from their bodies.
Correspondingly, the gravity tearing them apart began to lessen.
"We've run out of magic. Should we continue? If we encounter those rotting wild dogs again, we're definitely doomed."
"We can't see the golden light at the teleportation point, so we have to keep going. If you're scared, I can help you commit suicide."
"Let's get started. I'll go back and report on the situation here. The rest is up to you."
Some people in the group had second thoughts, and eventually several people, both men and women, left for various reasons.
In the end, only four people remained on the team.
Undine, Oria, and a pair of twin brothers.
