Chapter 89 Horror Adventure (2)
Hogback looked Akin up and down, then glanced at the fifteen combatants behind him.
"You brought so many materials? Today is truly a good day."
Hogback clapped his hands, beaming with a smile.
Immediately afterwards, something flashed by in the darkness behind Hogback!
With heavy footsteps, a huge figure emerged from the darkness!
The monster was over three meters tall, its body covered in patches of skin—some white, some black, and some bluish-purple. The skin was sewn together with thick, black thread.
The monster's face had three huge suture lines that converged into an X shape on the bridge of its nose. Its eye sockets had no whites; they were just pitch-black holes!
Zombie General!
Ajin gripped his iron crutch tightly.
Behind him, the combatants quickly dispersed.
"We'll handle the big one!" a pirate shouted. "Lord Gin, you deal with the one in the white coat!"
Hogback smiled upon hearing this: "To deal with me?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Hogback clapped his hands again.
More footsteps echoed in the darkness!
Dozens of zombies poured out from every corner deep inside the room!
There were ordinary sailor zombies, armored samurai zombies, and several enormous stitched-together monsters—some with three arms, some with two heads, and some with a human face sewn onto their chests.
The moment the two sides made contact, the combatants were scattered by the desperate zombies!
A man was surrounded by three zombies, their iron bars clanging as they fought. One smashed a head, while another lunged at him, biting his arm. He screamed as an axe cleaved into the zombie's neck. The zombie finally stopped moving, but its teeth still gripped his arm.
"Salt! Who brought salt?!"
"I didn't bring any! Who said you need salt to deal with zombies!"
"How would I know!"
"I brought it! King instructed me to bring it beforehand! You bunch of brainless idiots!"
There was chaos, but Akin didn't look back at them. Instead, he picked up his crutch and walked towards Hogback.
Hogback took a step back: "Stop this guy!"
After he finished speaking, the zombie general stepped forward and slammed his huge hand down on Akin.
Ajin sidestepped, swung his iron crutch, and smashed it into the zombie general's knee.
Boom!
The zombie general swayed, and a gash appeared on his knee, revealing his skeleton! But the zombie general did not fall, and continued walking forward as if unaffected.
Seeing this, Ah Jin frowned and took a step back.
What happened? That attack just now clearly used Haki...
Isn't Haki the natural enemy of Devil Fruit users?
While thinking, Ajin gripped his iron crutch and charged forward again.
However, what Arkin didn't know was that these zombies were actually corpses that had gained life by Moria injecting them with shadows.
Strictly speaking, they are essentially a form of immortality, because the corpses can no longer die.
Meanwhile, behind Akin, the combatants were engaged in a fierce battle with dozens of zombies.
Screams, shouts of killing, and the sound of bones breaking mingled together.
Outside the Thriller Bark, Dalton and his Avenki warriors were tasked with clearing out the animal zombies on the perimeter to prevent them from reinforcing the island.
The road beneath our feet was difficult to traverse. Various ship wrecks were pieced together to form a rugged terrain; some were broken hulls, some were fractured keels, and some were entire masts that had fallen over, lying across the ground like a bridge.
The gaps between the planks were large, allowing you to see the dark seawater surging below, making a gurgling sound.
"Watch your step," Dalton whispered. "Don't fall."
The group behind him slowed down, carefully stepping over the gaps one by one.
The fog was so thick that I could only see the blurry outlines of my companions and the black silhouettes of the spires in the distance.
After walking for about ten minutes, Dalton suddenly stopped and raised his hand.
The line stopped immediately.
Dalton tilted his head, listening to something.
The others also perked up their ears.
The faint sound of chewing came from the thick fog ahead.
The sound of countless mouths simultaneously biting into something, a fine, damp chewing sound. Mixed with the dripping sound of water droplets, it was almost indistinguishable unless you listened very carefully.
But once you hear it, you can never ignore it!
The sound drilled into their ears, like something crawling under their scalp. Someone swallowed hard, making a gulping sound that was particularly clear in the silence.
Dalton didn't look back. He just clenched his fists and kept walking.
The team followed.
The chewing sound grew closer.
After walking for about two minutes, the fog ahead gradually thinned, revealing an open area where the fog had been blocked by something.
Dalton stopped and saw a scene.
The open space was about half the size of a football field, and was surrounded by broken ship hulls and rusted iron parts.
Dozens of animals were squatting in the open space.
Dogs, cats, monkeys, birds, and several other creatures whose names I couldn't recall. One of them looked like a lizard and was over three meters long; two of them looked like giant rats, bigger than a person; and one even looked like a bear, squatting there like a small mountain.
Their fur is bluish-gray, and their skin has black stitches, making them look like patchwork dolls.
They sat in a circle, heads down, eating something.
Dalton squinted and took a few steps closer.
He saw it clearly.
They eat corpses, human corpses!
Seven or eight corpses were piled up haphazardly, clearly from the same pirate crew. Some had been gnawed down to skeletons, their pale bones scattered all over the ground; some still had half a face left, their empty eyes staring upwards; some had their bellies torn open, leaving only empty shells.
The tattered pirate flag lay to one side, stained with dark brown blood.
Dalton was silent for a few seconds.
Behind Dalton, even the savage Ivanki warriors gasped in shock.
"These—these—"
"Shut up! Don't attract the attention of those ghosts!" the person next to him whispered.
But this faint sound was clearly as loud as a bell in the ears of the animal zombies, and one of the dog zombies raised its head.
The dog zombie still had a piece of finger in its mouth. It chewed it twice, swallowed it, and then turned its head, its empty eye sockets facing Dalton's direction.
"Aww!"
It let out a low growl.
The piercing roar stabbed into everyone's eardrums like needles, and the other animal zombies raised their heads at the same time.
The chewing stopped, and the air seemed to freeze.
The Avenki warriors were stiff, a bizarre scene that even the barbarian warriors who had survived on a harsh island like Granfor had never encountered.
Putting aside whether the enemy is strong or not, it's just too terrifying.
Dalton was also a little uneasy, and could even hear his own heartbeat.
Behind him, someone in the line was breathing softly.
Just then, a cat zombie suddenly tilted its head and twisted its neck to an abnormal angle.
"Click!"
The cat zombie slowly stood up, its four paws supporting it on the ground, its back arched, and its mouth, still covered in bits of flesh, emitted a low hissing sound.
The sound acted like a signal, causing the other animal zombies to riot!
The dog zombies stood up, growling threateningly in their throats.
The monkey zombies bared their teeth, revealing their black gums.
The enormous lizard zombie had a forked tongue that was also stitched with black thread.
The bear zombie slowly stood up, reaching a height of four meters, like a moving small mountain.
Dalton took a deep breath: "Are you scared?"
The Avenki warriors, their faces pale, still shook their heads firmly: "We're not afraid!"
"Don't be afraid, these things have all died once." Dalton suddenly rushed out. "If you tear their bodies apart, they shouldn't be able to get up again!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Dalton's body began to swell, his bones cracking like a series of firecrackers exploding inside him.
Muscles bulged, tearing through his shirt; fur gushed from under his skin; his head stretched out, his mouth protruded forward, and huge bull horns burst from his forehead!
When he rushed to the group of animal zombies, it was already a ferocious bison that was three and a half meters tall.
The zombie dog at the very front was knocked away by Dalton!
The dog zombie flew out like a rag doll, smashing into the three zombies behind it. The sound of bones shattering was as clear as the sound of dry branches breaking!
The three zombies struggled to get up, but their legs were broken, and they could only writhe on the ground.
At the same time, the other zombies pounced! A dog zombie bit Dalton's hind leg, but Dalton swung his leg and flung the dog zombie away.
The dog zombie was smashed against the hull of the ship next to it, its spine broken! But its upper body was still moving, and it was still using its front paws to scratch the ground and crawl towards them.
"Follow me and kill them!" Dalton roared.
But that wasn't all. The three monkey zombies had already jumped onto Dalton's back, digging their claws into his fur and biting his neck.
The enormous lizard zombie charged forward, opened its mouth, and bit down on his foreleg. The teeth inside were like rows of barbs.
Dalton growled and used his horns to hurl the zombie monkey on his back. The monkey was flung into the air, then crashed to the ground, its head shattering against a rock.
"superior--!"
Inspired by Dalton, the roar of the Elki warriors came from behind.
A golden flash of lightning erupted from the bow of the Ark of Truth, and Enel transformed into a blinding bolt of lightning, tearing through the thick fog and shooting straight toward the tallest spire.
Below is a dense cluster of buildings.
A decaying spire, a collapsed clock tower, a roof covered in moss.
Occasionally, a zombie would raise its head, its empty eye sockets staring at the sky. Before it could even make out the trajectory of the light, it would be struck by the aftershock—
Golden arcs of electricity emanated from the main lightning bolt and struck the zombies.
"Crackling"
Enel didn't look down once. He stopped at the top of the spire and reformed into human form. His bare feet rested on the stone railing at the top of the tower, and the taiko drum on his back rose and fell slightly with his breath.
Below, the entire terrifying three-masted ship stretched out in the fog, like a giant beast crouching on the sea.
"Moria," he repeated the name.
Since arriving in Qinghai, this was the first time he had been assigned an opponent other than Steel Hand. It would be a lie to say he wasn't excited; Enel desperately needed to regain his confidence.
"Let me see what kind of trash the Seven Warlords of the Sea really are!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Enel leaped into the air, disappearing in a flash of lightning.
Inside the tower.
Several oil lamps were embedded in the wall, their blue flames flickering eerily and casting long shadows.
There was a door every few meters on both sides of the corridor. There were rustling sounds coming from behind the doors, but Enel ignored them and turned into a bolt of lightning and went straight ahead.
When they reached the middle of the corridor, the first door was suddenly kicked open, and a zombie rushed out.
The zombie was dressed in tattered captain's clothes, with a huge seam running from its left forehead to its right jaw. Its eyes had no pupils, only cloudy white ones.
It opened its mouth, let out a silent roar, and pounced on Enel.
Aini raised a finger, and with a crackling sound, a tiny arc of electricity shot out from his fingertip, striking the zombie in the chest!
The zombie suddenly stopped and looked down at its chest.
There was a charred hole there, still smoking.
However, the zombie seemed unaffected. It raised its head again and pounced on Enel without any fear!
Enel raised an eyebrow.
"Oh? Aren't you afraid of electricity?"
The next second, Enel retracted his fingers and threw a punch!
"Boom!"
A thick pillar of lightning blasted out from the front of the fist, engulfing the zombie.
When the lightning dissipated, the zombie had turned into a charred pillar, standing in place, still in a forward-leaning posture.
A few seconds later, it crumbled into powder and fell to the ground.
Enel stepped over the pile of ashes.
"I'm still scared."
As Enel continued forward, the ghost castle seemed to awaken, with more doors being smashed open and more zombies pouring out.
Some wore general's armor and held rusty longswords; some wore gentlemen's formal attire and had eerie smiles on their faces; some were even dressed as children, only half a person's height, but the murky light in their eyes was brighter than that of adult zombies.
They surged in from all directions, completely blocking the corridor.
Enel stopped again, looking at the zombies, then at his own hands, where golden arcs of electricity danced at his fingertips.
"A bunch of dead men." Enel's face looked terrifying against the backdrop of lightning. "How dare you block my path?"
Thirty Million Volts Thunderbird!
A giant bird made of lightning burst forth from the palm of the hand, its golden wings unfurling in the darkness, screeching as it swooped down toward both ends of the corridor!
The corridor was illuminated, and in that instant, all the zombies' faces were exposed to the lightning!
The Thunderbird crashed into the horde of zombies, and lightning exploded! Golden arcs of electricity, like countless snakes, leaped and spread wildly through the zombie horde!
The first zombie hit was instantly carbonized, remaining upright as it crumbled into pieces on the ground.
The second one was pierced through the chest by an electric arc, blasting a hole the size of a bowl, but it kept moving forward, taking two steps before collapsing.
The third, fourth, and fifth electric arcs jumped from one to another like a chain reaction, leaving only charred remains and ashes in their wake.
The lightning flashed for three seconds. After three seconds, the corridor fell completely silent.
Enel stood still, and there was nothing standing within a ten-meter radius around him!
All that remained were charred fragments scattered on the ground and a pungent, burnt smell permeating the air.
He withdrew his hand and continued walking forward, his boots crunching over the debris.
At the end of the corridor was a huge door, over ten meters high, with a giant skull pattern carved on the door panel—a scallion-like hairstyle and burning bat wings.
