Chapter 1 The Batman Murder Case
Chapter 1 The Batman Murder Case
On March 8, the Batman murder case that had caused a stir in Gotham City for the past two weeks finally subsided as the city's crime rate reversed course. Bruce Wayne, who had successfully cleared his name, AKA Batman, chose to sit in front of the Batcomputer after the incident and coldly create a blank spreadsheet.
He hesitated for a moment, then lightly tapped the keyboard with the fingertips of his claw-like gloves, finally typing the name that had been lingering in his mind since the incident ended—
Jaeger Winchester

Gotham City, March 6th, night.
Jaeger was completely baffled by the situation before him.
The piercing sirens of police cars echoed through the city, only to be muffled by the cold rain that blanketed it that night. Beyond the police cordon, a frenzied throng of reporters swarmed about like hyenas, while inside, police officers and forensic personnel bustled about.
At first glance, it looks like a crime scene straight out of an American detective drama.
Jaeger stood in the middle of the field, his gaze sweeping across the suspected crime scene where no one paid any attention to him, before finally settling on the air in front of him.
A card table that only he could see was floating there.
Unlike ordinary card tables, this one had a different city map underneath, with an arrow marking Jaeger's current location flashing on a street marked "Old Town."
Looking further up, you can see a few lines of text above the card table:
[March 6, 2011 - Gotham City]
[Currently using identity card: Jaeger Winchester]
Below this line of text was a gold card inserted in the center of the table, depicting a bloodstained longsword held horizontally across a white skull:
[Main Card for this Round: Massacre]
[Description: A path paved with blood, a road of slaughter.]
[Card requirements: Kill any person, or participate in any combat-related event.]
[Remaining validity period for this round of card redemption: 14 days]
[First-time game login notice: If you fail to fold the card within the time limit, you will be automatically considered dead.]
That glance was like a thunderbolt; Jaeger finally understood the current situation.
In short, he transmigrated into a card game that had become a viral sensation online due to its unique card survival gameplay and high degree of freedom. Players only need to know the core rule of "breaking the main card of the current round within a limited time to avoid death" to freely explore various ways to complete the game.
What's even more remarkable is that the game also features a workshop where players can freely build maps, main decks, special decks, and events based on the core gameplay, creating all sorts of mods to showcase their creativity.
Jaeger happened to have installed a mod, a DC & Marvel mod recommended by a superhero fan friend.
Just like someone installing a Harry Potter mod in Minecraft to become a runaway Hogwarts graduate, or installing a CET-4/6 mod in Slay the Spire to try and trick themselves into studying—this mod also adds a completely new storyline, completion mechanism, classes and exclusive decks, and even a whole new achievement system without changing the core game mechanics…
However, things are unpredictable. A player who had never heard of superheroes or played this mod before had just randomly selected the name "Jaeger Winchester" on the starting screen and confidently chose "Start with Full Random Mode" when he was immediately dropped here.
...As expected, overconfidence leads to nothing.
To make matters worse, Jaeger knew almost nothing about DC and Marvel. If his friend hadn't been a fan, he probably wouldn't even have known that DC and Marvel were two separate companies.
So much so that now, after this time travel, Jaeger is even more desperate than a college student who goes to the exam unprepared for the final exam.
But life is like the ocean; only those with strong will can reach the other shore. Left with no other choice, Jaeger could only tearfully open his identity card, hoping that his randomly assigned initial identity card would be somewhat reliable:
Name: Jaeger Winchester
Age: 23
Gender: Male
[Identity: "Detective"]
[Note: When using the identity card "Detective" - Jaeger Winchester, the exclusive card set "Occult Detective" can be used.]
Mystic Detective – This is a starting identity that doesn't exist in the original game; it can only be added in a mod, and the corresponding exclusive deck will definitely be brand new.
Jaeger subconsciously glanced at the deck, and the result was somewhat unexpected:
Wow, the golden legend!
The "Mystic Detective" deck provides five starting cards, four of which are actual skill cards, and even one is a prestigious passive card!
Just as Jaeger's luck was finally starting to improve, preventing him from suffering a disastrous start, he was about to flip through his deck to study the specific skills and passives when a voice suddenly came from behind him:
"Jaeger Winchester?"
Jaeger instinctively turned around and found a policeman standing behind him.
She was a young policewoman with black hair and distinctly Asian features. Her face showed signs of fatigue from working on cases for a long time, but her eyes remained sharp.
"Yes, may I ask what this is...?" Jaeger's gaze swept around the room before settling back on the policewoman. "...What's going on?"
The policewoman looked at the bewildered Jaeger, first frowning instinctively, then suddenly realizing what she meant, her eyes filled with sympathy: "I'm so sorry, Mr. Winchester, it seems you were just quite shaken and have forgotten why you're here... Would you like a cup of hot cocoa? Or perhaps a comforting blanket?"
Before Jaeger could refuse, he watched as the policewoman forcefully borrowed a blanket from the logistics staff and draped it over him, also handing him a mug of hot cocoa with the GCPD logo printed on it.
"Uh, thank you...?" Jaeger was on the verge of tears.
"You're welcome, after all, you are an important witness for us."
The policewoman didn't seem to notice anything amiss and continued, "In the past two weeks, Batman has committed a total of thirteen murders, but the crime scenes have often left no useful clues. But this time is different—we have two eyewitnesses, which is an unprecedented breakthrough! This may be a crucial opportunity for us to find out Batman's true identity and solve the case."
"And Mr. Winchester, you are one of our important witnesses."
Suddenly burdened with a heavy responsibility, Jaeger almost dropped his mug: "..."
Excuse me, I just arrived here five minutes ago and I don't know anything about it.
He could only bite the bullet and ask, "The Batman murder case?"
Considering this is a superhero mod, Jaeger could only start with "Batman," which seemed like a hero's name, in an attempt to probe the police's intentions.
Just as the policewoman was about to explain, her gaze suddenly caught something, causing her to pause abruptly: "Mr. Wayne?"
"What...?" Before Yege could even wonder, he felt a hand on his shoulder from behind, accompanied by a strong smell of alcohol.
"So this is the second witness, Wen... Wen what was it again?"
Jaeger turned his head to look and saw that the owner of the hand was a handsome young man who looked no older than him. He had black hair and blue eyes and was wearing a well-tailored dark suit, but the collar of his shirt was wide open, which, along with the smell of alcohol on his body, revealed a strange and dissolute temperament about him.
He slurred, his arm around Jaeger's shoulder. "Hey, nice to meet you, I'm Bruce Wayne! I heard you guys were talking about Batman...?"
"Yes." The policewoman pretended not to see Bruce's movements, as he was so drunk he could barely stand and could only shove Jaeger aside. "This is Mr. Jaeger Winchester. He was the second witness at the scene and most likely saw Batman fleeing the scene, just like you."
Jaeger stood still, not because he was indifferent to the overly familiar drunkard Bruce Wayne's actions—he was frozen in place.
An indescribable chill ran through his body from the moment Bruce Wayne put his arm around his shoulder.
Jaeger quickly discovered the source of the chill: the passive card provided by the "Occult Detective."
[Passive: Danger Perception]
[Description: A special warning will be triggered when there is danger in the surrounding area]
[Note: A great being from an unknown land protects you, detective.]
Regardless of the meaning of that ambiguous note, Jaeger now clearly understood what a "special warning" meant—not only was he feeling cold all over, but crimson text was also frantically floating before his eyes:
You sensed danger in your surroundings.
You sensed danger in your surroundings.
You sensed danger in your surroundings.
No matter how you look at it, the danger seems to come from Bruce Wayne, who is standing right next to him, but Jaeger can't discern any intention from the other man's drunken face—or perhaps the other man is just a good actor.
The chill vanished in an instant, and the [Danger Sense] also disappeared quickly, as if the danger Bruce Wayne had just felt was merely an illusion.
But as Jaeger casually wiped his pocket with his hand, his heart sank.
Something suddenly appeared in his pocket.
Just now, at the instant that [Danger Perception] was triggered.
