Chapter 269 Playing Dead
Chapter 269 Playing Dead
Kumogakure, the Hidden Cloud Village in the Land of Lightning.
Darui had just returned from a mission, handed in his mission report back to the village, and then headed towards Chuyi's place.
Rayleigh hesitated several times before finally saying nothing and watching Darui leave.
Darui held a gift box in his hand. Just thinking about how happy Chuyi would be to receive the gift made the corners of his mouth turn up, and his steps became lighter.
He hadn't seen her for more than ten days and really missed her. If it weren't for the fact that he was specifically assigned to this mission, he would have definitely brought Chu Yi with him.
"Knock knock knock..."
Darui knocked on the door for a while, but no one answered. A bad feeling welled up in his heart.
"Hatsui must have gone out to train in ninjutsu."
He suppressed his unease and headed towards the place where Chu Yi was most likely to cultivate.
No matter how hard he searched, he could not find Chu Yi.
"Was he sent out by the village?" Darui's unease grew stronger, and he tried to reassure himself.
He questioned the other two disciples, but they had no clue either. Darui noticed the struggle in their eyes. Despite his repeated questioning, the two disciples still did not reveal where Chu Yi was. However, he received a message that the Raikage had given an order not to let him know.
"Something must have happened to Chu Yi, but why can't we let him know?"
He didn't press further, but instead asked several of Chu Yi's close friends, all of whom remained silent.
Darui couldn't go directly to the Raikage's office, but the Raikage, who had been in the office earlier, had already left.
"Why is this happening?!"
He somehow left the office, and upon seeing hope, he immediately grabbed his arm and asked, "hope, you must know about Chu Yi's situation, right..."
When hope saw Darui looking so distraught for the first time, she swallowed back the words she was about to say.
Darui will find out sooner or later, so why keep it a secret?
“Darui, I know where Chuyi is, but I hope that once you know, you won’t bother her. It’s better for both of you.”
“If you promise me, I’ll tell you.” Darui nodded hastily.
hope took a deep breath before slowly speaking, "Darui, Chuyi has been taken in by the daimyo and was taken away three days ago. She should have arrived at the daimyo's residence by now."
“That’s impossible. I thought she would never agree to this because she knows Chu Yi so well.” Darui shook hope’s face, looking incredulous.
“Chu Yi did not agree initially, but the Daimyo threatened you with your life, so she agreed.” hope stared at Darui and explained the reason.
"No wonder the Raikage assigned him to carry out the special mission alone; so this is the reason."
Darui was heartbroken beyond measure. He suddenly released his grip on Xi and slid to his knees. He punched the ground repeatedly, his hands soon covered in blood, but he seemed unresponsive.
"Darui, don't do this. Chuyi certainly wouldn't want to see you like this," hope said, grabbing Darui's self-harming hands and pleading with him.
His words were completely useless, and Darui simply pushed him away.
Darui suddenly stood up. "hope, I'm going to find Chu Yi. From now on, just pretend I don't exist in the village. Please tell Lord Raikage."
"Darui, are you crazy?!"
"You've worked so hard to get to where you are now, are you just going to give up so easily?"
"Besides, it's too late for you to go to Daming Prefecture now."
"If all else fails, take on another disciple." hope was quite puzzled. He never imagined that Darui would develop feelings for a disciple under his guidance, let alone such deep feelings.
He thought of Chu Yi and couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. "Sigh... how did things turn out like this?"
If he hadn't asked Chu Yi for help that day, how could Da Ming have happened to see Chu Yi? Actually, he was the culprit.
Darui paid no heed. Only now did he truly understand his own heart. If he had understood sooner, would none of this have happened? "Chuyi, you must wait for your teacher."
“Darui, I’ll go with you,” hope said, grabbing Darui who was about to leave.
Darui nodded. "Thank you, hope!"
Just as the two were about to leave together, after seeing off Hatsui and the group that had gone to the Daimyo's mansion back to Kumogakure, someone asked, "Hiss, Darui, where did the Raikage go?"
Darui noticed a glint in the eyes of the group and felt something was amiss. It was unusual for them to be back in the village so early. He asked, puzzled, "Why are you all back so early?"
The leading man glanced at Darui and said, "Lord Xi, may I speak with you in private?"
hope shook her head. "Let's talk about it here. Darui already knows."
Upon hearing this, the leading man slowly spoke, "Lord Xi, when we were escorting her to rest halfway, we called Chu Yi to eat something, and found that she... had committed suicide in the sedan chair."
"What did you say? You said Chu Yi is dead!" Xi grabbed the person in front of her, trying to see the truth in his eyes.
At that moment, Darui's mind was filled with the word 'suicide'.
"Teacher Darui, do you have any poison that makes people die silently without feeling any pain?"
He remembered what Chu Yi had asked him for before he left the village, and how come he hadn't noticed it at all?
Darui walked dazedly to the sedan chair, holding the lifeless person inside. "Chuyi, wake up, your teacher is back!"
"Open your eyes and look, okay? Your teacher brought you a gift. I'm sure you'll like it."
hope never imagined that Chu Yi would choose death; if he had known, he would have stopped her no matter what.
He had never seen Darui like this before, and after a long while, he finally spoke, "Darui, face reality!"
"Chu Yi, she's not dead!" Darui didn't believe it at all and immediately picked her up and left.
"Lord Xi, shall we go after them?" the man beside him asked.
"Let him have some peace and quiet!" Darui sighed as he watched him leave.
"Chu Yi, I brought you to the island to play, please wake up!" Darui looked down at the person he was holding in his arms, his heart aching beyond measure.
The little girl who used to snuggle in his arms is now motionless and silent, hot tears falling one after another onto Chu Yi's face.
"Chu Yi, it's my fault for not protecting you, but don't punish me like this."
Chu Yi, who had intended to play dead, couldn't bear to see her teacher so heartbroken. She suddenly opened her eyes, reached out and gently placed her hand on his face to comfort him, "Teacher, I'm fine... Don't cry, it will break your heart."
The sudden change left Darui frozen for a moment, then a surge of immense joy washed over him, and he tightly embraced the person in his arms.
"Chu Yi, I'm so glad you're alright. Please don't scare your teacher like that again, okay?" His tone was full of pleading.
"Teacher Darui, aren't you angry with me?"
"I'm afraid it will be difficult to explain to the village. Teacher, you won't hand me over, will you?" Chu Yi wanted to break free from the embrace that made her feel safe whenever she thought of this.
"Chu Yi, why would you think of your teacher like that? Now that your teacher knows, no one can take you away from me."
"Teacher would rather give up everything she has now than let you get hurt again. Teacher will definitely protect you. Trust Teacher, okay?" Darui hugged Chu Yi tightly as she tried to break free and leave, making a promise.
Chu Yi hummed softly before leaning against Darui's chest, but her head seemed to have bumped into something, making her look annoyed.
