Chapter 25 Bodyguard Steve
Chapter 25 Bodyguard Steve
Tony and Steve arrived at a small room in S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Don't worry, this is a private room, usually used for discussing important matters." Steve took a bottle of Coke from somewhere in the room and handed it to "Tony".
"What are you planning to do?" Tony took the Coke. Ever since he had drunk this stuff with Quill before, he had also developed a liking for it.
Steve took a big gulp, burped, and didn't answer, his eyes fixed on the corner of the room.
Tony didn't disturb them and sat quietly to the side.
"Natasha can't be trusted either; at least for now, we can't tell her the information we have."
Without warning, Steve said, "If Natasha's behavior becomes unusual, the mole will definitely notice, and it will be even harder to catch them afterward."
Tony watched Steve's retreating figure, a slight smile slowly curving his lips in the shadows.
"So what are you planning to do?" Tony asked again.
"Let's go find Valon first. Since their target is Valon, let's strike first."
Tony raised an eyebrow after hearing Steve's suggestion: "Strike first? Directly attacking Valon will only worsen his relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D."
"That's not it," Steve waved his hand, still with his back to "Tony," "Close protection is enough. Speaking of which, I think Valon and I have a pretty good relationship. When he was still a dragon, we called each other quite affectionately."
Tony's lips twitched slightly. What did he mean by "intimate"? If it weren't for the circumstances and the influence of the observer, he would have slapped the blond, big-chested man in front of him to death long ago.
Steve didn't care what "Tony" would say next, got up and went out.
"Hello, Mr. Valon."
The next morning, the Lord heard Steve's voice outside the door: "Speaking of which, the weather is quite nice today."
The Holy Lord opened the door, glanced at the sky, and said gloomily, "Hmm, that's good."
The atmosphere gradually became awkward. Steve was reluctant to reveal his purpose and wanted to find a new topic, while Shendu was thinking about how to get Steve more darts.
"Mr. Steve, are you going for a morning run too?" the Holy Lord asked first.
"Ah, yes, yes, I heard you've been going for a morning run lately, and since I happen to be doing it too, I thought I'd invite you to join me." Steve rubbed his nose.
The two of them ran along the road, each with their own ulterior motives, exchanging words here and there.
"What's your opinion on S.H.I.E.L.D." Steve probed for Shendu's opinion.
Knowing Steve's intentions, the Holy Lord went along with him, saying, "The security is tight, and the agents trust each other so much that they can entrust their backs to one another."
The Holy Lord paused, as if remembering something: "Has the matter of the mole we discussed before been resolved?"
Before Steve could speak, Shendu answered himself: "Given S.H.I.E.L.D.'s efficiency, dealing with a small mole should be a simple matter, right? Even if the other party might be related to the Chitauri."
Steve opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end he remained silent.
Telling the truth would arouse Valon's suspicion about the inner workings of S.H.I.E.L.D.
If they lie, Valon will find out the truth sooner or later, which will only diminish Valon's trust in S.H.I.E.L.D.
Steve felt that the pressure he was under now was no less than when he faced Leviathan.
The Holy Lord continued to praise S.H.I.E.L.D.: "The place I'm staying now was also arranged by S.H.I.E.L.D. To be honest, I think S.H.I.E.L.D. is pretty good. I plan to go and see them in the next few days."
"Captain, we'll need you as our guide then."
Upon hearing that Shendu was going to S.H.I.E.L.D. recently, Steve immediately snapped out of his thoughts: "It might not be possible recently. There are some secret missions within S.H.I.E.L.D. that are not convenient to disclose to the outside world."
Cleaning up the mole within S.H.I.E.L.D. was indeed a secret mission, and that wasn't a lie, Steve thought.
Hearing Steve's words, the Holy Lord feigned disappointment: "What a pity."
The atmosphere became awkward again.
"Hello, Mr. Steve."
Just as Steve was about to revive the conversation, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent appeared in front of him.
Steve stopped and symbolically waved in greeting.
"Hello, Mr. Valon, I've heard so much about you." The agent extended his hand to greet the Holy Lord.
"Am I that famous?" The Holy Lord stretched out his hand.
Just as the Holy Lord and the agent were about to shake hands, Steve suddenly sensed something was wrong.
How did he know the name Valmont? Logically speaking, only high-ranking members of S.H.I.E.L.D. should know this name.
Without hesitation, Steve slapped the agent's hand away, ignoring the bewildered Holy Lord beside him: "Stop pretending."
The agent paused for a moment, then asked, "Mr. Steve, what's wrong? What are you talking about?"
"Stop pretending. At your level, there's no way you'd know the name Valon," Steve said sharply. "What's your purpose?"
As the agent walked toward the Holy Lord, he asked, "Mr. Steve, I respect you, but I really don't know what you're talking about."
As the agent drew closer to the Holy Lord, Steve felt a sense of foreboding. Without hesitation, he punched the agent in the forehead.
The agent dodged, his agility completely unlike the muscular man he appeared to be: "Captain, why did you do that?"
Stop pretending.
Steve ignored the other man's questions and continued to rain down punches on him: "You've been exposed."
"As expected of the legendary Captain America, he found out so quickly." The agent retreated continuously, throwing darts rapidly from his hand.
This time, Steve had a clear view and easily dodged the darts.
The Holy Lord stood to the side, inwardly thinking, "Looks like I'll have to add an acting class to the Shadow Legion."
Steve pulled out a pistol from somewhere, and the agent, seeing Steve pull out the pistol, immediately rushed into the shade of a tree.
boom! boom! boom!
Steve fired three shots, expecting to kill his opponent, but what happened next made Steve's eyes widen in surprise.
The agent's figure vanished, turning into a shadow that blended into the shade of the tree, and finally disappeared completely.
"It's the same thing again. It happened in the power supply room last time too," Steve muttered to himself, looking at the spot where the agent had disappeared.
"Last time?" The Holy Lord asked, feigning seriousness, after hearing Steve's words.
Seeing that he couldn't hide it any longer, Steve had no choice but to tell the truth: "There's a mole trying to sow discord between you and S.H.I.E.L.D. They're very clever; they can even turn invisible, just like they did just now."
Steve picked up the dart the agent had just thrown: "Looks like they've started making their move."
"Things haven't been peaceful at S.H.I.E.L.D. lately. Don't trust other agents easily when you see them. I need to go inside and find out what happened today." Steve said this and headed towards S.H.I.E.L.D.
The Holy Lord watched Steve disappear from sight, then turned and entered a deserted alley, taking out a small box from his pocket.
An ant was quietly sitting inside the box.
"Now, it's time to deal with the snake charm."
