Chapter 206 Quite Patient
The night is deep and quiet, the moon is bright and the stars are few.
A raven flew over a tower of Hogwarts Castle, leaving two cawing sounds that broke the silence of the night.
Between the buildings below, a dark figure silently approached a room on the third floor of the castle and placed something at the door.
It was a haphazardly crumpled paper package, which at first glance looked like some little wizard's trash left in the hallway—the kind that would definitely get a scolding if Filch saw it.
Of course, Filch was still inspecting other places at this time and wouldn't be here for a while.
After putting down the crumpled paper, the dark figure took a few steps back and stopped. Then, it took something out of the pocket of its robe—a wooden puppet the size of a palm.
The puppet was made very simply, as if it were made from wood found somewhere at random. The surface was rough, and even the bark was not cleaned, let alone painted or colored.
Another unique feature is that the puppet's head is very large, making it look like a potato with four limbs at first glance.
The shadowy figure gently placed the puppet on the floor of the corridor, fiddled with it a few times, and made it face the door.
To confirm the puppet's location one last time, the shadowy figure drew his wand, uttered a very short spell, and lightly tapped the potato puppet's head with the tip of his wand.
Then, the ugly and crude puppet began to move slowly.
The movement was incredibly slow, taking only a few seconds to move forward one step, each step covering a distance of about an inch.
As the little wooden puppet began to walk resolutely toward the door, the shadowy figure nodded almost imperceptibly, turned around and left as silently as it had come, disappearing completely as it turned a corner in a corridor.
The puppet that remained in place continued to move forward step by step, inch by inch, getting closer and closer to the door.
After about ten minutes, the puppet finally encountered the biggest obstacle of its life—a huge wooden plank that seemed to reach straight into the sky, making it impossible for it to move an inch.
Unable to move forward, the puppet changed its actions, and its potato-like head began to bang on the door, making a "thump-thump-thump" sound.
"Squeak!"
The door was opened from the inside, and the puppet lost its balance and fell to the ground with a thud.
A head with a haphazardly wrapped headscarf and an angry expression popped out of the room.
The head belonged to the resident of this room, Professor Quirrell, Hogwarts' Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
Quirrell looked outside the door and found no one in the hallway. Confused and annoyed, he stammered a few curses.
Just as he was about to close the door again, he noticed the puppet struggling to get up at his feet, and a crumpled piece of paper next to it.
He bent down and carefully picked up the two items. After examining them cautiously, he unfolded the crumpled paper.
Inside the crumpled paper was a small, transparent glass bottle containing a pale green liquid.
And on the crumpled piece of paper that wrapped the item was another line of text—"Forever loyal to the Dark Lord!"
Upon seeing this, Quirrell's pupils contracted slightly, his expression showing surprise and hesitation. He quickly looked around and then pulled out his wand.
However, even when he used the corresponding spell to trace the trail, he could only see a dark figure whose identity was indistinguishable, and nothing else.
……
The dark figure was none other than Qin Yu.
He was lying on his bed in the dormitory, reviewing the night's events.
All I can say is that there are many loopholes and it was all done in a very rushed manner.
He had been fussing for days, all for the purpose of placing that crumpled piece of paper in front of Quirrell's door tonight. Inside the paper was a glass bottle containing the venom of the giant eight-eyed spider that he had spiked.
Indeed, after observing for some time and combining various information, Qin Yu had long suspected that Quirrell, or rather, Voldemort "behind him," was the mysterious buyer who bought a large amount of Venom—the timing of the Venom supply disruption and Quirrell's abnormal behavior highly coincided!
What is Quirrell doing buying so much Venom?
Qin Yu could only guess that it might be related to the "Witch God's Blood" that he had accidentally "found" last Christmas. Moreover, he had asked Dumbledore about the follow-up of the Witch God's Blood, and it seemed that this thing had already entered the Death Eaters' circle.
Perhaps Voldemort was actually trying to use this thing in order to be resurrected? Something probably went wrong, causing Quirrell to become abnormal, behaving like a zombie—the little mice that Professor Swinton fed with the blood of the sorcerer god had similar characteristics.
In short, all fingers can be pointed at Quirrell—even if the suspicion is wrong, it doesn't matter.
Qin Yu didn't know how Quirrell, or rather Voldemort, would resolve this crisis, but at the moment, what they desperately needed was the venom of the eight-eyed spider, and for that, they were even willing to break into Hagrid's house to steal it.
If Quirrell continues his frantic search, the Weasley brothers and Qin Yu himself will become the next potential targets.
Therefore, in order to avoid any danger, Qin Yu devised this plan to muddy the waters.
Whether Quirrell would dare to use the vial of venom, or whether he would discover that there was something wrong with the venom, was something Qin Yu couldn't predict.
However, he knew that his actions would certainly arouse Quirrell's great vigilance, making him wonder who had placed the paper ball, whether that person was friend or foe, and how much they knew about the secret they were hiding.
If Qin Yu could divert Quirrell's attention from these "kids who could never possibly know that secret," then he would have achieved his goal.
"I've done what I needed to do, I don't want to think about it anymore, I'm so sleepy..."
Qin Yu muttered something to himself, then pulled the blanket up and closed his eyes to sleep.
……
The next day, everything seemed normal.
Qin Yu had been secretly observing Professor Quirrell's condition since morning and found that he was still much the same as before, moving slowly and often pausing, with occasional thoughtful and worried expressions in his eyes.
"Judging from his reaction, the item must have been 'delivered' to him."
Qin Yu came to this conclusion.
As for whether Professor Quirrell intended to use the vial of venom, Qin Yu had no way of knowing; all he could do was wait and see how things developed.
And, privately, he reminded George and Fred to be careful lately and not to go to any secluded or deserted places to avoid encountering danger.
"Are you worried that the thief who went to Hagrid's house will come looking for us?"
One of George and Fred said this, and both of them frowned at the same time.
They're not stupid. Qin wouldn't take a small bottle of venom for no reason. Considering what's happened recently, it's too easy to connect it to that "burglary."
"Ah."
Qin Yu nodded in agreement, then added, "I've already made some arrangements, but I don't know if they'll be effective. So, you should remain vigilant, but at the same time, don't appear too panicked and arouse their suspicion. Do you understand?"
"I think... I understand."
"So you're just pretending to be calm and completely unaware of your arrangements?"
"We really didn't know either."
"That's just playing yourself, haha."
As they talked, they started laughing, their eyes brimming with undisguised excitement.
"..."
Well, while others might be filled with worry about dangerous things, these two clowns just find it exciting.
Qin Yu was speechless.
Of course, while they found it exciting, the two were also aware that they wouldn't do anything reckless at a time like this.
Qin Yu punched each of the two men once, conveying his serious attitude.
As it turned out, they did take it to heart. Over the next few days, they continued to play pranks on others as usual, but they always stayed in the crowd and went back to their Gryffindor dorms to sleep early at night.
However, when Qin Yu saw that their prank had affected Professor Quirrell, covering his headscarf with feathers, he was still worried for the two of them.
This is how he died; tell me if it's true to his nature or not.
Even without the venom from the eight-eyed giant spider, Qin Yu thought that Professor Quirrell or Voldemort were quite patient for not killing those two.
Indeed, those who achieve great things are able to endure what ordinary people cannot.
