Chapter 2921 - 2451
Going back on one’s word is a common occurrence.
"Alright." Ashton Heath pulled a person into his arms, a pampering kiss landing on the lips of his delicate wife, his seductive baritone filled with a light smile, "It’s me who insisted on our baby. By then, my main task is to take good care of you and our baby. I won’t say a word more about anything else."
"Hmph, remember what you said." Joanna Lawrence poked again at his well-built chest, huffing aloud.
The man caught her tender little hand, kissed it against his lips, and chuckled lightly, "Mmm, I remember."
*
The White family’s residence.
"Sir Darren, Mr. Ashton, Miss and Mr. White are back."
The maid walked briskly into the hall, announcing with a smile.
No sooner had she finished her sentence than Ashton, with Joanna in his arms, walked in.
Sir White and Gary were chatting in the living room; Joanna didn’t see Madam White around, and thought she must be busy in the kitchen at this time.
She looked around the hall, in addition to Madam White’s absence, one more person was not present.
She didn’t see Gary’s girlfriend.
"Dad, Bro." Joanna approached and greeted them first.
Ashton Heath also greeted Sir White, "Dad."
Sir White greeted them with laughter, "Come sit. Gary and I were just talking about when you guys would arrive, and here you are."
Gary also greeted, "We just got the pastry fresh from the kitchen; it’s still warm. It’s all your favorites. Come and taste it."
Joanna, holding Ashton’s arm, sat down across from them.
On the carved white coffee table, there were five or six plates of pastries. Both the plates and the pastries themselves looked quite delicate, indeed all were the sweet treats she loved.
She picked up a piece of pastry from the nearest small plate, took a small bite, then looked up and smiled, "Mmm, it’s delicious."
"Dinner is almost ready, just taste a couple of pieces, don’t eat too much," Gary reminded her fearing she’d overeat.
Joanna nodded, took another small bite, and after waiting for a while and not seeing the person she was curious about, she couldn’t help but ask, "Bro, where’s my future sister-in-law? I couldn’t see her."
"Oh, she’s in the kitchen," Gary replied mentioning his girlfriend, the laughter in his eyes subdued, revealing no real emotion, "She’s helping Mum."
Joanna glanced in the direction of the kitchen.
So that’s why she hadn’t seen her yet.
"Then I’ll go to the kitchen and take a look," Joanna was really curious about what her future sister-in-law looked like, she couldn’t wait to meet her.
She released Ashton’s hand, stood up and said, "The future sister in-law is helping Mum with things, I, as the daughter, can’t just sit here doing nothing, right? You guys chat, I’ll go take a look."
Having said that, she headed for the kitchen.
Ashton glanced at Gary, his lips curling into a teasing smile, "She’s very curious about this future sister-in-law. She can’t wait to meet her."
Gary’s tone was indifferent, "What’s there to be curious about? It’s not like she’s some mysterious figure."
His tone was devoid of any warmth, his expression blank, showing none of the fervor one would expect from a man in love.
Mentioning his girlfriend, whom he had not been dating for very long, was like speaking about a passing stranger.
This attitude of his stirred a slight interest in Ashton, who previously didn’t particularly care about this matter.
His thin lips curled again, his tone intriguing, "I remember you once said you were committed to celibacy, but according to Joanna, the woman you brought back is the one you plan to marry."
