Chapter 189 186 All For One's Plan 1
Chapter 189 186 All For One's Plan 1
The ruined forests of Nagano stretched endlessly beneath the darkening evening sky.
Gigantomachia moved through them in silence.
Each step still carried enough force to shake loose dirt from the roots of nearby trees despite the fact that his body had already shrunk significantly from the colossal scale he had displayed earlier on the mountain. Even reduced, however, the giant remained enormous.
Massive shoulders rolled beneath scarred skin while exposed muscle slowly regenerated around the blasted crater left in his shoulder. In the little time since then, the injury was already healing despite possessing no regeneration quirk of any sort.
'Perhaps master would be interested in this one.'
The thought lingered in the back of Gigantomachia's mind as he continued moving through the forest.
Then the voice box crackled again.
"…Machia…"
Static hissed through the speaker.
"…Machia." The giant's pale eyes narrowed slightly.
"…Doctor."
The voice on the other end exhaled audibly in relief. "There you are. I have been calling for the last few minutes yet received no response. Your vital monitors recorded a massive spike in kinetic output and a sudden dip in your localized temperature."
This truly was unusual. Gigantomachia's original quirk, Endurance, granted him practically limitless stamina.
He could fight for days and nights on end and require as little as two hours of sleep afterwards before resuming another battle of equal intensity.
Combined with the senses granted by his canine mutation, Gigantomachia was an exceptionally light sleeper.
For him to ignore repeated calls meant only one thing. His communicator had not been on his person. "…You left the transmitter," Garaki observed.
"Yes. The box was dropped." Machia rumbled, his thick fingers resting lightly over the metallic device at his throat. Yet another unusual development. Gigantomachia did not remove equipment given to him unless there was a reason.
He had some idea of what.
"Did you run into an enemy, Machia?"
"I encountered a group of criminals insulting master's name. I sought to eliminate them, but one was capable of evading me for extended periods." The voice box went silent. Then, "Did you pursue them?" The doctor already regretted asking.
"Yes." Machia answered. It was pretty obvious. Gigantomachia was a creature that rarely abandoned a task once he decided something required his effort. The few times he did was under direct instructions from All For One.
"The blasphemers... are dead," Machia answered. "I traced the last one down to a far off area where I .." Machia explained the entire situation from his perspective. The voice box went silent.
Then,
"I traced the last one down to a far off area where I encountered several insects." Machia rumbled. "The blasphemer attempted to hide amongst them."
Dr. Garaki adjusted his glasses on the other end. This wasn't particularly noteworthy. Japan was currently descending into chaos. heroes were practically working overtime to track criminals scattered across the country. With many escaped convicts taking shelter in the mountains, it was understandable that Gigantomachia would be discovered sooner or later.
"I attempted to eliminate the insect." A brief pause followed. "However, I was stopped before I could deal the finishing blow by a strong human and injured in the process."
"Oh?" Garaki's voice came through the transmitter box, thick with surprise. He had expected something similar after the vital signs spiked, but to breach Machia's skin .. Just how did this person manage such a feat? "... Seems like you met a tough one, Machia. Did you continue the engagement?"
"No. The enemy interfered after my mission was complete. Combat was unnecessary."
On the other side of the line, Dr. Garaki didn't think much of it. Gigantomachia was a creature of absolute obedience and loyalty to All For One who had no other purpose. Once the subject of his pursuit was dead, it was normal not to engage further without aggression from the other end.
However, the fact that Gigantomachia had chosen not to continue fighting. That alone spoke volumes.
"I see. Truly interesting. However, we have more important things to take care of now." Garaki spoke from the voice box. "With your presence now known, there is no point staying outside any longer."
"Hmm? You mean .."
"Indeed. You are to return, Machia. We have entered the next phase of the master's will." At the mention of his master, Gigantomachia's gaze sharpened instantly. The dull, lethargic aura surrounding the giant vanished, replaced by an explosive, terrifying earnestness.
"…Location."
"Come to the outskirts of Jaku City. At a reasonable size." The doctor adjusted his glasses.
"I will make arrangements to have you transported the rest of the way."
"...Understood." The communication clicked dead.
For several seconds, Gigantomachia remained motionless. Then his massive frame shifted as he activated his mole quirk.
BOOOOOOOOM. The forest exploded apart beneath his feet.
The soil and stone of the Nagano mountains parted effortlessly under the overwhelming force of his hardened claws. Traveling deep beneath the bedrock to avoid detection, Gigantomachia moved with a singular, terrifying momentum. Hours later, deep beneath the wooded outskirts bordering Jaku City, the ground fractured upward.
CRAAAAACK.
The forest floor split open. Gigantomachia rose from the hole like a mole rat, his frame already significantly compressed compared to his mountain-cleaving state.
Earth rolled off his shoulders as he exhaled a thick cloud of dust. His cataract-white eyes scanned the area around him for any humans.
Not long after, the specialized transmitter at his throat crackled to life. "Excellent. You've arrived."
"…Doctor."
"You're right on schedule, Machia. Now... hold still, and do not resist what is about to come next."
Machia remained perfectly motionless, without so much as a change in expression.
The next instant, a dark ooze substance erupted from his mouth. The pitch-black liquid didn't fall to the dirt. It instead defied gravity, expanding rapidly like a living shroud. It wrapped around his massive jaw, blinded his eyes, and encased his entire muscular torso in an instant.
The surrounding air distorted. Then, with a sickening, localized SNAP of displaced air, the giant vanished from the outskirts of Jaku City entirely. Two seconds later, the darkness receded.
Black sludge slid away from Gigantomachia's body before withdrawing into a tiny creature perched atop a nearby metal console. The giant slowly blinked. His surroundings had changed entirely. The city in the distance and vegetation around him had disappeared. Gigantomachia blinked heavily, his white irises adjusting to the sudden shift in light. Standing at a restricted five to six meters in height, he found himself occupying a massive, sterile subterranean chamber.
Cold steel walls surrounded him from every direction. Machines hummed continuously throughout the chamber. Rows of large glass cylinders stretched into the distance, each one filled with murky fluid and grotesque shapes suspended within. Some possessed multiple limbs. Others barely resembled humans at all. Gigantomachia's eyes drifted across them.
The air was thick with the stench that came from a successful warp, assaulting his enhanced sense of smell alongside other things.
"Welcome back, Machia," a reedy, self-satisfied voice echoed from the center of the room. The giant turned his heavy gaze forward. Standing before a massive console of blinking monitors and diagnostic equipment was Dr. Kyudai Garaki. The short, stout doctor adjusted his thick spectacles, a wide, unsettling grin stretching across his mustache-covered face.
For several moments neither spoke. Then Machia's eyes narrowed.
"…Underground."
"Astute as always." Garaki smiled faintly. "This facility has remained hidden for many years." The doctor's gaze lingered briefly on the partially healed crater in Machia's shoulder. "Though judging from your condition, I imagine your journey proved eventful."
The giant stared at him silently for several seconds.
Then—
"Where is master."
The laboratory temperature itself seemed to drop.
Garaki inhaled slowly.
"…The master is gone." It looked like this couldn't be avoided.
Silence.
Then the containment chamber holding one of the experimental Nomu beside Gigantomachia exploded inward.
CRAAAAASH.
The giant's fist had impacted the reinforced glass hard enough to run right through and collapse an entire section of the laboratory wall on the other end. Gigantomachia's breathing deepened.
"What do you MEAN he is gone?!" Machia's roar shook the laboratory itself. The colossal giant towered over the room with visible fury twisting across his face while his breathing grew heavier by the second. "…Explain yourself. I will not tolerate this blasphemy from you."
Across from him, Kyudai Garaki remained seated calmly in his chair. At least outwardly. Internally, cold sweat rolled steadily down the old doctor's spine. He knew Machia could kill him without a second thought, and probably would do so in a rage if he didn't explain what was going on properly. Slowly, the old doctor reached toward one of the nearby monitors before pressing a button.
The screen flickered. Then live television footage from six days began playing across the laboratory display.
Kamino Ward.
Fire.
Destruction.
The loss of Forty plus of Japan's finest.
Then fast forward to Tokyo,
All Might.
All For One.
And finally—
Yuta.
Gigantomachia watched silently as the footage continued.
The giant's expression did not visibly change.
But the pressure rolling off his body became suffocating.
The screen showed All For One's final moments.
The impact. The destruction and the subsequent collapse.
Finally, All Might's victorious hand standing over All For One's corpse.
Dead.
"This is the truth Machia." Garaki said while sitting on his chair. There was no way to hide this. At least not without Machia figuring something out in the long run. If that were to happen, it would be bad if it caused any unexpected changes, hence it would be better to lay out the situation at the start.
"It happened as long as six days ago while you were in the mountains. All For One fought his long time enemy, and in the eyes of the public, was unfortunately defeated." The laboratory groaned faintly as Gigantomachia's feet dug into the steel flooring hard enough to deform it.
Gigantomachia's eyes narrowed immediately.
"…Him."
"Hmm? Who?" Kyudai Garaki asked.
"Him." This time, the giant raised hand directly at a specific screen. One that showed the scene where All For One tried to take away Yuta's quirk and failed in the process.
"Who is he?"
"Oh, him. You have a good eye Machia. His name is Yuta Akutami, a 16 year old student currently enrolled in U.A high, a teaching institution for growing heroes." The Doctor adjusted his glasses. "Also, from this current image itself, it shows a very important piece of information. He is most likely the current holder of All For One's ultimate prize."
"You mean .."
"Yes Machia. He possesses the quirk our master has been after for all these years. One For ..."
".. You mean .." Machia's voice cut into Garaki's speech.
'Hmm?' The old man turned to look at Machia only to finally notice that the once expressionless face of the giant was contorting to extremes.
"... That the human I left behind hours ago …" Gigantomachia's voice deepened into something monstrous. "Was involved in master's death."
"Hmm?" This time, it was Garaki's then to be stunned. "Machia ... You're saying that .."
The floor cracked beneath him.
The laboratory shook again. This time from pure rage.
BOOOM!
Multiple Nomu tanks were smashed with a single swipe.
"MASTER!!!" The creature wailed, voice tinged with sorrow and rage.
