Chapter 264 – Invading Storm’s End.
Chapter 264 – Invading Storm’s End.
[Chapter Size: 2300 Words.]
Third Person POV.
King's Landing.
...
...
Unlike the entire army in ecstasy, celebrating at that moment, Lord Stark showed himself to be in a bad mood as soon as Daemon descended from the walls and met his uncle.
He had a stern expression — he was obviously not pleased at all with Daemon's actions. Not that Daemon cared. He simply offered a smile.
"That is my justice, Lord Stark. Before you give me a lecture, but don't worry... I will not simply laugh at the corpses that died here today, as your friend did 20 years ago... They died as traitors, because they acted as traitors."
Before Lord Stark could respond to Daemon's words, he continued. "There is one thing I want you to do: take care of the city while I am gone. I will go to Storm's End right now to finish off the rest of House Tyrell." He explained, while Lord Stark seemed to have swallowed a lemon.
"You are going to exterminate them all." The response came from Lord Stark.
"Not necessarily, I will only deal with traitors, but I will spare the girl. At least she will go to the Silent Sisters, her mother will go as well. But I cannot say the same about the old woman and the brother. The old woman would not be wise to keep alive, she has a very dangerous tongue, and that Loras would be a problem sent to the Wall." Daemon said and turned away.
Daemon did not wait for his uncle's response and moved forward.
But he had only taken a few steps when Val approached him. "Let me go with you."
That tone was almost like a demand rather than a request. That made Daemon look at her for a moment and smile.
She had been with Mance's army, but she did not fight. Ygritte also remained still during the battle.
Tormund was one of those celebrating somewhere among the well-known ones; after having slaughtered some men who tried to break into the free folk's formation, he was happy.
"Alright, but do everything I tell you." Daemon gave his answer to Val.
With those words, Daemon headed back to the gate with Val right behind him. The sound of the army's roar rose louder at that moment, celebrating the end of the war.
As they saw Daemon passing by them, everyone roared even louder.
Stannis appeared at that moment on top of his horse. "Your Majesty. Everything is under control now." He said in his cold and serious tone.
"Stannis, I will deal with a few more problems at Storm's End. And if I remember correctly, you have that nephew who opened the castle gates to the Blackfyre and knelt to him... Do you want to deal with him personally or should I behead him?" He asked, offering the two options. Obviously, Daemon wanted to kill him — but if Stannis wanted to deal with him, he would leave it to Stannis...
"I would ask you to throw him in a cell, and I would deal with him myself. But you can make it easier for me, Your Majesty. That way, I would not have to become a kinslayer." He said.
"I think 'kinslayer' carries little weight for someone who has to stop bastard usurpers in his own house." Daemon replied. "It doesn't make sense for you to have to deal with a nephew out of fear of being called that."
"Even so, Your Majesty, whispers will always be heard... if Your Grace deals with this loose end, I will have less of a headache."
Daemon shrugged. "Then I will do what I had planned from the beginning."
He paused, looking at the soldiers filling the entire place, celebrating — there were more than 170 thousand men.
"Now, I want you to clean the entire battlefield. Keep the prisoners as hostages. See who the most important ones are, who is worth keeping, and offer the stock of drink to all our soldiers, but do not let them enter the city in a drunken state, we do not want incidents against the people of King's Landing. Also, look for Blackwood and tell him to announce the victory to the entire city. Tell all the details — even if the people do not believe it."
It did not seem very difficult for the people to believe, after all there were many people from the city infiltrated by the walls, or on top of houses and tall buildings, wanting to observe the battle. Certainly, they would confirm everything Blackwood told in detail, even if it seemed somewhat impossible to believe.
Stannis nodded. He would let them celebrate, while he would not remain idle — there were still some fools to deal with in the south. With that, he turned his attention to something that followed him.
"Well, Val, let's go." He moved forward and the blonde followed behind.
"I will take you on Viridrax, Winter is always annoyed with you riding her. Maybe she won't mind... but I'll warn you: she is a bit pricklier than the ice she-dragon." Daemon said.
Val simply snorted and shrugged.
They went to the green dragon. Viridrax was standing together with the black dragon. Winter was a bit farther away.
Daemon approached alone, praised them for their performance in High Valyrian, then in the Old Tongue for both. In any case, he asked Viridrax to follow him, with the green dragon moving away from the others.
As he got close to Val, the dragon looked at her, but did not seem to mind Daemon's intentions of making both him and the woman ride on his back.
A roar of jealousy rose in the distance. Winter did not seem to like it, and Viridrax also showed irritation toward her.
"You are tired. Rest. I will return in a few hours." Daemon said to the ice she-dragon.
With that, the dragon spread its wings and surged into the sky, flying away from there, heading south.
Meanwhile, at Storm's End Castle, Edric was in the great hall eating together with Olenna, Margaery, Loras and several other lords who had remained there — many of them being hostages, sons and relatives of men who were forced to fight for Aegon in the north. After all, not all the lords of the Stormlands had knelt of their own will.
Even so, they were still treated with honor by House Baratheon. Edric, despite having been openly insulted at the moment they left for King's Landing, was still the Lord of Storm's End at that moment.
The maester entered the place as he moved toward the higher tables, bringing some news from two days ago. "Your Grace, my lady." He greeted the queen and Olenna.
"Thank you, maester." Olenna received the letters. Margaery was the queen, but even so, Olenna was the head behind almost everything there.
They still had no idea what had happened in Sunspear and in Highgarden. After all, the news would take at least three days to arrive, and they had no idea of the war that had taken place that very same day.
So they were receiving outdated information. There was nothing about the capture of Willas, Doran or Trystane in the letters — only plans that had been under discussion.
"Anything important, grandmother?" Margaery asked, curious.
"It only says here that your father was arriving at the king's army and should already be there by now, to fight alongside your brother." Olenna said.
"They should already be at war and defeating that bastard who took King's Landing. I should be there!" Loras did not fail to mutter at the side, clearly bothered.
Olenna gave a slight smile. "You are better here, protecting your sister, with her being the queen of the Seven Kingdoms." She said, but Loras still seemed impatient.
His sister touched his arm. "I am glad you are here, brother. I could not ask for a better warrior." Margaery said in a tone full of tenderness. Loras seemed to calm down a bit.
The maester left the main table and went to Edric, handing him more letters. "His Majesty asked me to give you these instructions."
Edric nodded with some displeasure as he saw them. Even so, he opened them and began to read the orders.
It was not a letter declaring war because he had been cuckolding the king in recent days, nor suspicions. Varys and Aegon would not do something so direct. He had no idea that his affair with the queen had been discovered.
Even so, he became irritated with those orders. The king kept making demands, as always, even knowing that he would not gain any reward — on the contrary, he might even be betrayed in the end.
His eyes then fell on Margaery, who was talking with her grandmother. When their gazes met, there was a glimmer there. For him, there was affection.
That made Edric feel good. Despite having been betrayed by the king, the fact that he was sleeping with the queen gave him a sense of revenge. The same could be said for her — after all, she was taking revenge on the king by involving herself with the other Martell girl.
Both were in this for revenge.
Olenna noticed, and her face immediately hardened. "I hope you do not do anything foolish, my Margaery." She leaned close to her granddaughter's ear and spoke.
"If you want to do this, do it in secret. But after you have a child with the king, you still need to give him an heir." Olenna said.
Margaery looked at her. Both knew that she would do what her grandmother ordered, for the good of her family.
In any case, the lunch had gone well. Edric supervised the matters of the Stormlands, as usual.
Until he entered one of the warehouses a little far from the castle, it was an order from King Aegon, with his guards, and he ended up being surprised by one of them.
He simply felt a blow to the head.
When he woke up, he was tied in the dungeons of some place, naked and hanging by a rope.
"What does this mean?!" He shouted immediately, but the men only mocked him.
"You are here under the king's orders." They said.
That made Edric panic. "What do you mean by that?" He stammered.
"Well... Varys sent us because he received a letter saying you were up to something and asked us to watch you, we certainly saw that you were indeed sleeping with the queen. The king does not know yet, but he certainly will not like it at all and needs to calm his anger before he finds out. You understand, the queen is still necessary, because the king needs the Tyrell army... but you..." The guard smiled with contempt.
"You are just an idiot."
"Get me out of here now! I order it!" Edric shouted, but the men only laughed.
"Do not worry. The king will take your head personally. But Varys asked us to do something to you first... especially with this here." He pointed the sword directly between his legs.
"What are you going to do?" Edric trembled.
"Isn't it obvious? We are going to turn you into a eunuch." The guard replied, laughing, while his men looked at each other and nodded.
"Let's do this. For His Majesty, so that you cannot put that filthy thing where you shouldn't. Later, you lose your head for it."
Edric's screams echoed through that cold dungeon of Storm's End, while no one in the castle had any idea of what was happening to the young man being castrated.
At the same time, in the sky, Daemon arrived with Viridrax, flying over the Stormlands. Until that moment, no one had seen him on top of the green dragon. Val was holding onto him from behind.
"Let's go down here." He said, observing the castle.
She still did not know what he meant by that. She only felt Daemon turning and pulling her to himself, while he began to stand up in the middle of the flight.
"What are you doing?!" She said, stunned.
Daemon simply smiled, like a rogue. "Just hold on to me." He said.
In the next moment, he jumped between the wings and the dragon's neck, entering free fall.
Val screamed immediately, but Daemon covered her mouth, while continuing to look down. She held onto him with all her strength during the fall.
Quickly, he began to activate a levitation spell, and at the moment when two green grid-like lines began to circle, his falling speed decreased, until they started descending slowly.
Val finally calmed down, looking at that — and then at Daemon. "That was not nice." She growled.
Daemon simply gave a smile and kissed her. "What is it? Do you not trust me anymore? Did you think we were going to die like that?" He said after calming her down.
She merely snorted as they fell close to the castle. Daemon simply made them float until they landed in a place where they were not seen.
"Well, there are not many men here, but there must be at least three hundred guards." Daemon commented after analyzing everything in the castle.
Before giving any orders, he called the dragon from the sky through their bond, which quickly began to descend with force. In the next moment, he made his announcement — a roar coming from the sky that alerted all of Storm's End.
"Now that they are distracted, let's begin." Daemon said, drawing not Dark Sister this time, but Blackfyre itself. It was time to finally test this weapon taken from that fool.
Val also drew her Valyrian steel sword and followed Daemon.
