Chapter 306: Or Should I Sleep on the Sofa?

Evening came in a flash, yet Monica still showed no signs of waking. Maya sighed and tucked Monica’s quilt in more securely.

Ian stood quietly to the side, his gaze tightly following Maya.

The care and worry in Maya’s eyes were genuine and unfeigned; it was the first time she revealed such raw emotion. It seemed as if this world also held both the charm and capability to grasp her.

So how long will it take before I can firmly grasp her...

"It’s getting late, Maya, you should go rest with Ian. I’ve asked Auntie Zhang to prepare a room for you, and I’ll stay here with your mom."

Jasper came over and placed a cup of warm water on the table.

Maya didn’t move, still reluctant to leave Monica.

"I’m the one who usually takes care of your mom, and no one knows her better than I do. Besides, if you stay here all night, she’ll be heartbroken when she wakes up. Maya, go and rest."

Maya stood up, "Dad, call us if anything happens."

"Okay."

Jasper escorted the two out of the room.

The temporary resting place was a guest room, cleaned up and spotless. Originally, Jasper had wanted Maya to stay in the room she used to live in, but Maya refused with various excuses, like how the room was difficult to tidy up with too many "collections."

What she feared most was Ian’s questioning. If he asked about the significance of the room’s decor or picked up a photo frame and asked about her childhood, she’d have to make up stories again.

The two walked into the room one after the other, and Maya already felt exhausted. Now, freed from worries, she plopped down onto the bed.

Ian poured her a glass of water and handed it over, "Tired?"

Maya nodded honestly, "A lot happened today, just feeling emotionally drained. I don’t know when my mom will wake up. If she doesn’t wake by tomorrow, I’ll call the doctor again."

Looking down, she saw it was hot water, but this time she said nothing and simply took a large gulp.

With Ian around, it was hard not to be cared for.

Ian gently stroked her hair, "Don’t worry, everything will be alright, I promise you."

Maya snapped out of her daze, forcing a smile, "Okay."

Seeing Monica always reminded her of her own mother, that eternally gentle woman. So when Monica was sick and suffering, Maya empathized and felt unwell herself.

It wasn’t exactly early, and today’s events had been too chaotic, leaving Maya with little mood for watching dramas or messing around.

As she lifted the quilt to lie down, she suddenly realized a problem:

Perhaps Auntie Zhang was too thoughtful; the bed only had one quilt. This meant Ian and she would have to share one bed and one quilt...

Maya clutched the quilt’s edge and froze for a few seconds.

At some point, Ian had already changed into his pajamas. He walked over leisurely, and upon seeing the bed and Maya’s slightly dazed expression, he quickly understood.

He chuckled, considerately suggesting, "How about I sleep on the couch?"

"No need..." Maya instinctively replied, regretting it immediately. Who would have thought Ian would volunteer to sleep on the couch? Normally, he couldn’t get close enough...

Before she could reconsider, Ian had already gotten into the bed.

Maya instinctively scooted to the side, quickly bumping into the nightstand. This was a guestroom, with standard-sized beds that couldn’t compare to the super-sized bed at home.
