Chapter 1080: Not Ordinary
Chapter 1080: Not Ordinary
Kellan Blake thought of the investigation he’d done on Kai Bright back then and nodded in sudden understanding.Right, Kai also liked to go race with those buddies of his every now and then. He’d probably honed his skills like that.
Kellan pushed himself to keep up, but while they were still in the city, he still ended up a certain distance behind Kai.
Finally, once they were out of the city and there were hardly any cars on the road, Kellan figured he could finally catch up to Kai.
But then he realized he was wrong.
Only when the traffic thinned out did Kellan really witness Kai’s speed.
He had the gas pedal floored and could only barely see the taillights of Kai’s car.
When they reached the spot, Kai saw the car parked there, pushed open his door and jumped out. "What’s the situation?"
"To the right," Charles Seymour said, tossing a walkie-talkie to Kai at the same time.
"Got it." Kai caught it and got back into the car. By this time Kellan had also arrived. Seeing the few of them, he hurriedly got out and said, "Don’t act rashly. If you startle the kidnappers, the hostage will be in danger. I’ve already called people in."
The moment Kellan finished speaking, all he got in return was the exhaust from the two cars pulling away.
Kellan froze for a second, then rushed back into his car, cursing through clenched teeth, "Idiots!"
Right then, Kellan’s phone rang. He picked up, and a woman’s voice came through: "Kellan Blake, don’t call Lucy’s dad!"
"Isn’t Lucy’s dad—"
"My ass he is, my uncle works a desk job!" Sophie Wilson snapped straight at him.
"I called the police," Kellan blurted. "They’ll be here soon—hello?"
He didn’t even finish before the call got hung up on the other end.
Kellan was baffled, but he still drove fast, following the two cars ahead.
He noticed those people actually seemed to have some kind of route in mind and just kept going straight along it.
Kellan had no idea if they really knew where they were headed, so he could only follow. In case they were right, he could help get Lucy Wells out. How were the three of them supposed to face armed criminals head-on?
They reached a desolate area; right ahead was the mountain.
There was an abandoned car by the roadside, and the license plate was exactly the one from when Lucy had been kidnapped.
After Sophie and the others got out, they checked the surroundings. There were two paths that led up into the mountain.
"We split up," Charles said without the slightest hesitation. As soon as he finished, he and Sophie were already heading for the path on the left.
Kai went straight for the one on the right by himself.
Kellan hurried to follow Kai. As they ran into the woods, he kept warning him, "If we run into the kidnappers later, you stay back. Don’t be reckless. If the hostage gets hurt, it’ll be bad."
Kai didn’t spare Kellan a single word. With Lucy missing, he was frantic. Any pretense and restraint had long been thrown out the window.
Right now he just wanted to find Lucy as fast as possible. At the same time he was racing through his mind: had his identity been exposed, dragging Lucy into this?
Kai’s head was jammed full of all kinds of thoughts, but he forced himself to calm down and not miss any clue along the way.
Kellan moved quickly through the mountain trail. After a while, he glanced sideways at Kai in surprise.
This guy actually hadn’t fallen behind at all?
His own stamina wasn’t something ordinary people could keep up with. Kai’s physical condition really was something else.
"This way." Kellan spotted subtle traces ahead and lowered his voice to remind Kai. But when he turned his head, he realized Kai had already stepped onto the direction those traces pointed to.
