The old man spoke calmly, and Lin Qi gestured to Gao Wen, signaling him to leave with the man.
When only the two of them remained in the room, the old man finally turned his chair around so that Lin Qi could see his face.
This is a face weathered by time, resolute and fierce, with its left eye replaced by a mechanical prosthetic eye that gleams with a scarlet light.
The controller of the Lower Nest Black Market, a man who supposedly spent a considerable amount of time in the Upper Nest in his youth, is nicknamed "Old Gunner Eye" because of his mechanical prosthetic eye that can fire lasers.
This name always reminded Lynch of the legendary Commissar of Armageddon.
"You haven't come to see me for a while. What, do you have some good stuff that's hard to deal with this time?"
"This time it's not; I want to exchange some things with you."
Lin Qi took a deep breath and said.
This wasn't the first time he'd met Lao Pao Yan. After all, in the past, relying on his abilities, the other party had taken away most of the supplies he acquired.
A large number of undamaged gas masks and dozens of laser guns meant that, apart from Lao Paoyan, no one else in Xiachao could stomach it.
This also allowed the two to establish some relationship, but it was limited to cooperation. If someone came along who could offer higher benefits, neither of them would hesitate to betray the other.
However, Lin Qi can still confidently seek some help from the other party now.
"I want as much information as possible, and as detailed as possible, about all the heretical sects in Hive City."
Lynch then voiced his request.
As the Emperor's Eye, Gawain naturally possesses exceptional intelligence-gathering abilities. However, it's a pity that he has only focused on intelligence regarding the Star Claws, while knowing very little about the other forces within the Nest City.
This is normal, though. After all, under the rule of an Astartes Chapter, or even an overstretched one, it's a miracle that other factions survived.
If the Astartes Chapter doesn't encounter any problems.
While others might not know, Lin Qi was certain that Huron had openly entered the Chaos after the Battle of Badab.
However, the time when the other party came into contact with Chaos must have been much earlier. Even during the Badab War, when the Empire was negotiating with him, the Chaos fleet that suddenly appeared and killed important personnel on both sides of the negotiation may have been the mastermind behind his conspiracy to expand the war.
What Lynch needs to do now is to gather evidence of Huron’s contact with Chaos.
After all, the only thing that can break a brotherhood is a true betrayal of humanity.
For intelligence like this, the heretical sects within the hive city are undoubtedly the best point of entry.
"Heretical sect?"
The old man narrowed his right eye, which was still intact, slightly, opened the drawer, took out a cigarette case, put one in his mouth, and tossed one to Lin Qi.
"What do you need that information about bad luck for?"
Chapter 5 Trouble is coming
"What do you need that information about bad luck for?"
Smoking a cigarette, Lao Paoyan asked Lin Qi this question.
“I have my uses. Just tell me whether you’ll give it to me or not. You’ve been in the underworld for so many years. Don’t tell me you don’t even have a little bit of information about these heretics.”
"Of course I have the intelligence."
Seeing Lin Qi's attitude, the veteran stopped asking questions.
The most important thing about selling intelligence is not asking what the purpose is, although such a rule doesn't work very well in a chaotic place like the Nest City.
However, for Lin Qi, a guy who hasn't been around for long but has brought him a lot of benefits, Old Cannon Eye is still willing to abide by the rules.
Old Pao finished his cigarette, then stood up and went to a safe in the room.
The electronic prosthetic eye and the safe's scanning lock aligned. After confirming the information, the safe opened automatically with a gear-turning sound, revealing a bunch of sealed folders inside.
After rummaging around inside for a while, Lao Pao Yan finally took out a folder and placed it in front of Lin Qi.
"The intelligence on heretical sects is basically all here. There are about a dozen heretical sects of all sizes around here. They believe in all sorts of things, but none of them believe in the Emperor. Among these dozen or so, only two are respectable: the Ascension Gang and the Blood Brotherhood."
"However, the two sides went to war a few days ago for some unknown reason. I heard that the Ascension Gang, those who believed in that so-called Four-Armed God Emperor, won, and even a vice president of the Blood Brotherhood died on the battlefield."
The Ascension Gang, the Blood Brotherhood.
Just from the names alone, Lin Qi could roughly guess the identity of the gods worshipped by these two forces.
The former is the Great Devourer, or the warp shadow known as the Hive Will.
The latter is an antisocial kobold sitting on a bronze throne in the Warp, symbolizing the evil god Khorne, who embodies emotions such as glory, war, and slaughter.
Lin Qi opened the documents, and the first page he saw was a map showing the complete structure of the city. On this map, the territories of each gang were marked in detail.
They were even worried that others wouldn't know how the sphere of influence had changed like this. The second page of the document was an earlier version of the map, showing before the Ascension Gang gained the upper hand in the war with the Blood Brotherhood.
Lin Qi was about to continue watching, but at that moment, Lao Pao Yan reached out and stopped him.
It's time to pay.
The old man's meaning was clear, which made Lin Qi breathe a sigh of relief and begin to prepare to negotiate a price with the other party.
Although he hadn't read through all the materials, he had now basically determined his goal: the Brotherhood of Blood.
After all, although the Ascension Cult is a heretical cult, it is essentially an alternate force built by cunning individuals—the Genestealers, the vanguard of the Hive Fleet—and has virtually no connection to Chaos.
Trying to find evidence of Huron's affair with Chaos from them is as absurd as trying to find Chu in Slaanesh's palace.
The Blood Brotherhood is a genuine Chaos cult, and if I remember correctly, after Huron joined the cult, he leaned more towards Khorne's side.
"what would you like?"
Lin Qi looked into the old man's eyes and asked about his needs.
Old Pao didn't rush to speak. Instead, he lit another cigarette, took a deep drag, created a long cigarette butt, and then exhaled two long plumes of white smoke from his nose.
"You want to take action against these heretical sects, right? It's simple. Do me a favor and kill the leader of the Ascension Gang, a bald woman, and I'll give you this information."
Lin Qi narrowed his eyes slightly, looked at the old gunman in front of him, and slowly spoke.
"Give me a reason?"
"Don't forget the rules. I won't ask you why you took this information, and you shouldn't ask me why I killed the leader of the Ascension Gang."
Lin Qi remained silent, first lowering his head as if deep in thought, until five minutes later when he finally looked up at Lao Pao Yan.
"I promise you, within three days I will deliver news of the Ascension Gang leader's death."
According to the information provided, the leader of the Ascension Gang is a bald female psychic.
If Lynch's guess is correct, the other party should be a bishop similar to the Genestealers cult, but because the cult is not yet fully developed, it is not as powerful as a fully developed bishop.
For a retired former Imperial Guard, assassinating such a person would not be too difficult.
The old man looked at Lin Qi, somewhat surprised by the other's straightforwardness.
As far as he knew, Lynch was not someone who excelled in personal combat.
Is that Oglin? It seems he's found a capable person after being missing for almost two weeks.
"Here's a pack of cigarettes for you too, as an extra reward."
The old man chuckled and tossed over the half-empty pack of cigarettes he was holding.
Lin Qi took the cigarette, nodded to Lao Pao Yan, picked up the folder containing the documents, and turned to leave the room.
The transaction was relatively successful, and the cost wasn't as high as expected.
Gao Wen waited at the door, looking at the feigned dazedness on that originally resolute and weathered face. Lin Qi's lips twitched; he could only say that the acting was so bad it was hard to believe.
As expected of the Imperial Guard, even their disguise as Oglin was so lifelike.
"gone."
Lin Qi nudged Gao Wen, who stood still for a while before seemingly realizing what was happening and catching up with him.
The man who escorted the two upstairs saw them out of the tavern on behalf of Lao Pao Yan. On the way back, Lin Qi was about to open the documents and read them as he walked when Gao Wen, who had removed his disguise, reached out and touched his shoulder.
"Someone is following us."
His voice wasn't loud, just loud enough for the two of them to hear.
A veteran with a sharp eye?
Lynch did not doubt Gawain's words. Even retired guards were still guards, and their physical fitness and perception were not comparable to ordinary people or even Astartes.
Lin Qi subtly used his psionic energy, causing the surrounding air to drop slightly. He sensed two presences observing them, approximately fifty and seventy meters behind them.
Lin Qi didn't say anything, but led Gao Wen into a small alley.
Then he stopped, turned around and nodded to Gao Wen.
Gao Wen didn't speak. The next moment, he suddenly disappeared from the spot, leaving behind a faint afterimage.
Three seconds later, Gao Wen reappeared in front of Lin Qi, carrying two unconscious people in his hands.
"How to deal with it?"
The former Imperial Guard inquired, waiting to see how Lin Qi would deal with these two unlucky guys who were following them.
"No rush, let me check these people's memories first."
Lin Qi used his psionic energy to first check if the two men had any potentially needed supplies in their memories, and then he checked their target and superior.
After examining it, his expression became strange.
He wasn't an old hand at this, which was similar to what he thought. After all, the other party wasn't that shameless and brainless. Sending someone to follow him after just making an assassination deal with him was a sign of distrust that someone who had been running a tavern in this place for decades wouldn't do.
These two people are from the Ascension Gang and the Blood Brotherhood, respectively.
As for their reasons for following them...
For a period of time, Lin Qi would often sell the weapons and supplies he had extracted to Lao Pao Yan in exchange for some pure water and food that were unseen in the lower levels of the Nest City.
The two gangs somehow found out about this, and they both believed that Lynch had discovered an abandoned PDF armory, so they both took action, intending to be the first to find the location of this place.
It can only be said that the trouble was caused by his own incompetence.
but……
Lin Qi suddenly thought of a way to fulfill the terms of the deal and also investigate the plans of the Blood Brotherhood.
